About The Position

At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features. Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale. The Role Virtual Propulsion Engineer – Dynamics & NVH Analysis We’re looking for a passionate, innovative CAE engineer to join our Dynamics & NVH analysis team. In this Virtual Propulsion Engineer role, you’ll lead and execute FEA based structural dynamic stress analysis for ICE, PHEV & BEV propulsion systems. Simulations are focused on various propulsion components such as electric drive units and engine components, including turbos, exhaust systems, brackets and other structural hardware. You’ll collaborate with others across the organization to help drive the design of GM components using your cutting-edge analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, Physics or other related fields
  • 3+ years of engineering experience with FEA software (Abaqus, Optistruct)
  • Knowledge of Structural Dynamics as it pertains to NVH
  • Understanding of ICE, PHEV and BEV vehicle system and integration
  • High level of technical problem-solving skills and experience in the production domain to address vehicle level issues.
  • Ability to occasionally work non-standard hours to collaborate with our overseas analysis support team
  • Ability to create and present information to leadership, peers, customers, and suppliers in a clear and concise manner
  • Familiarity with a variety of other CAE tools (such as HyperMesh, Optistruct, ANSA, AMEsim, ADAMS/or any MBD Tools], Actran, Abaqus, Python and/or Matlab etc.

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. and/or PhD in Engineering with specialization in Noise and Vibrations, FEA and Physics preferred
  • 5+ year of experience with 3D FEA analysis of propulsion related systems
  • Experience with programming in Matlab and/or Python
  • Experience with MDO- Multi Disciplinary Optimization
  • Thorough understanding of signal processing
  • Recognized as technical leader in FEA Modeling tools

Responsibilities

  • Build, troubleshoot, and run complex analytical models to assess dynamic stress behavior as well as noise and vibration performance.
  • Provide component level and/or system level design recommendations to customers (DRE’s, N&V engineers) based on interpretation of analysis results
  • Advance analysis capabilities to reduce physical testing needs and support GM’s vision for increased virtualization.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve standard work and procedural documentation.
  • Support teams throughout the full program lifecycle—from concept through production—ensuring CAE models are optimized for effective customer use.
  • Lead capability‑building initiatives related to our area of expertise
  • Drive efforts in cost reduction, size optimization, and overall efficiency improvements.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring to engineers to ensure accurate, efficient delivery of virtual propulsion work.
