The Virtual Monitor Tech plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of patients by observing them remotely or at the bedside. This position is essential in identifying safety concerns, documenting observations, and communicating vital information to nursing staff. The Virtual Monitor Tech is responsible for intervening in situations where there is a potential or actual threat to a patient's safety, providing observation for patients across various age groups, including adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. The role requires effective communication skills and the ability to monitor patients continuously, either through direct visualization or via a virtual monitoring system. In this position, the Virtual Monitor Tech will receive handoff communication from the previous shift's Medical Observer and provide a comprehensive handoff to the incoming staff. They will identify specific safety risks for each patient and confirm the need for either initiating or discontinuing virtual or bedside monitoring in collaboration with the primary nurse. The tech must maintain constant visual observation of the patient, recognizing any changes in behavior that may indicate an increased risk for adverse safety events. They are also responsible for surveying the patient environment for potential safety risks and ensuring that family members or visitors do not pose a threat to the patient's safety. The Virtual Monitor Tech must remain focused on the patient, refraining from personal calls or distractions during their shift. They will document all observations and interventions accurately and maintain the order and functionality of the Virtual Monitoring Unit and its equipment. Occasionally, the tech may be required to take on the role of shift leader, organizing workflow and ensuring effective communication among team members. This position is vital in maintaining a safe and supportive environment for patients, contributing to the overall mission of Northeast Georgia Health System to improve community health.
