This position is located in Roanoke, VA at Carilion Clinic Parkview and is not a work-from-home position. The Virtual Monitor Technician plays a crucial role in the healthcare system by providing cardiac monitoring and virtual sitting services for patients at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. The clinical operation of centralized telemetry operates 24/7/365 at the Virtual Operations Center, which is designed to assist nurses and physicians in delivering quality patient care. The technician will work with a diverse team of specialized technicians in a remote patient-centered care environment. The primary responsibilities of the Virtual Monitor Technician II include continuous ECG monitoring of patients' cardiac rhythms, responding to alarms, identifying cardiac arrhythmias, reporting significant events, tracking patient activities, documenting abnormalities, and producing cardiac rhythm reports. Additionally, the technician may perform continuous video monitoring of patients for potential safety risks and provide immediate intervention through direct communication with the patient room and nursing staff. Ensuring continuity of patient care is paramount, and the technician must respond to all monitoring alarms, interpret cardiac arrhythmias, triage actionable events, and notify nursing staff according to alarm management protocols. The technician is responsible for maintaining safe patient monitoring by ensuring alarms are set with appropriate limits, responding to life-threatening arrhythmias, and communicating abnormal findings to nursing staff. They will continuously observe cardiac monitors and patient status, document any changes in rhythm, and maintain shift documentation. The technician will also provide virtual observation of at-risk patients under the supervision of a registered nurse, ensuring patient safety at all times. This role requires effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills, as well as the ability to complete orientation and competency validation for the position.
