Virtual Construction Intern Job Description: Join HITT’s award-winning Futures Program as a Virtual Construction Intern and gain hands-on experience at the intersection of construction and technology with a top national general contractor. If you’re curious about how buildings come together and excited by the role technology plays in modern construction, this immersive 10-week internship provides meaningful project exposure from day one. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals who are committed to elevating the business of building through innovation, collaboration, and practical problem-solving. As part of our Virtual Construction team, you’ll support active projects using 3D models, coordination workflows, and cloud-based collaboration platforms that help teams build more efficiently and with greater clarity. You’ll see how digital tools connect design teams, field operations, and clients — improving constructability, reducing risk, and preventing issues before they reach the jobsite. Through individual mentorship, hands-on learning, professional networking events, and career development courses, you’ll build technical skills, strengthen communication abilities, and gain practical experience that prepares you for careers in project engineering, digital delivery, or virtual construction.

Requirements

• Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related technology field
• Ability to work approximately 40 hours per week for the duration of the 10-week program
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
• Willingness to learn project-specific software systems, including Microsoft Office 365 (Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Adobe, and Bluebeam
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
• Client-focused mindset and a proactive, positive attitude

Nice To Haves

• Previous internship, volunteer, or relevant work experience preferred
• Interest in construction technology, innovation, and the general contracting industry

Responsibilities

• Support the Virtual Construction team with 3D model development, coordination, and BIM file management
• Assist with model-based progress visualization and reporting for internal teams and client review
• Participate in model coordination processes including clash detection, trade coordination reviews, and resolution tracking
• Support virtual construction deliverables such as 3D coordination models, site logistics plans, and prefabrication modeling
• Collaborate with onsite superintendents and field teams to assist with reality capture (laser scanning and point clouds), model-to-field verification, trade coordination, and layout support
• Assist in managing cloud-based coordination platforms, including model sharing, workflow tracking, and digital issue management
• Support preconstruction efforts by reviewing design models, drawings, and specifications; assisting with constructability analyses; and attending internal meetings and client walkthroughs
• Actively participate in social and networking events, weekly training and educational sessions, and HITT corporate responsibility initiatives
