About The Position

Reporting to the program supervisor, the Violence Intervention Specialist (VIS) will provide culturally competent, intensive case management to victimized patients enrolled in the Hospital Based Violence Intervention Program, Encompass Omaha. The VIS plays a lead role in advocating for patients by utilizing a multidisciplinary approach of recovery and healing through collaboration of acute care medical services and long-term community-based services, and by addressing barriers to obtain equitable opportunity for medical care, behavior health, and social service interventions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate degree (consider enrolled students working towards degree) or 2 years of direct experience with community-based violence required
  • Effective verbal, written communication, interpersonal and listening skills are required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and work as part of a multidisciplinary team is required.
  • Ability to apply various interviewing techniques with diverse groups of people is required.
  • Ability to network with and provide information to key groups, individuals, and stakeholders is required.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact is required. The ability to maintain poise and professional courtesy under pressure is required.
  • Writing and typing skills required to keep accurate case documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills required.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age-specific needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of direct experience with community-based violence preferred
  • Background in substance abuse, traumatic stress, motivational interviewing, and/or violence prevention/intervention
