I. POSITION OBJECTIVE The primary objective of this role is to carry out R&D projects that drive significant profits or cost savings while creating value-added products. This involves developing new products, enhancing existing PVC resins and compounds, and effectively addressing customer product concerns. The product development engineer aims to strengthen the company's competitive edge; developing process and formulation optimization, and contributing to a more sustainable future for vinyl. Additionally, it ensures a safe and healthy work environment, adhering to environmental, health, and safety regulations, as well as company standards. II. MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY PRODUCT AND TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT - Develop and launch new and improved products to drive value creation and cost savings in a timely manner. Strengthen the product portfolio's competitiveness and quality to meet customer needs, while actively partnering with customers as a trusted technical solution provider. IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS - Evaluate product performance to pinpoint areas for improvement, promoting best industry practices and resolving any issues. Optimize and update chemical and instrumental methods, along with the rheological characterization of the product. TECHNICAL SUPPORT - Provide technical support to the Operating Units, QA/QC, and the customers. Offer technical support for new product trial, process improvement, troubleshooting, and addressing customer complaints. LAB SAFETY AND MANAGEMENT - Ensure lab safety by developing and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs), managing chemicals, maintaining instruments, service contracts, and ensuring the proper functioning of the R&D lab. THM - Promote cleanliness and order through implementation of the Total Housekeeping Maintenance program. Emphasize Nothing Touch the Ground Program and No Visual Pollution Program. Maintain the plants' like new condition. III. QUALIFICATIONS A. TECHNICAL JOB CRITERIA 1. Previous Related Experience Required (0 - 5) years of experience in research and development, focusing on PVC resin polymerization, process optimization, PVC compound formulation development and improvement, processing technology, production trials, and product launches. A strong academic and practical background in chemical engineering, chemistry, chemical and instrumental analysis, polymer synthesis and processing, and rheological studies is desirable. 2. Technical Skills Required To Perform This Job * In-depth knowledge of PVC resin free radical polymerization processes, including suspension and emulsion polymerization techniques. * Expertise in compounding techniques, blending PVC resins with additives, stabilizers, fillers, and plasticizers to achieve targeted physical properties. * Familiarity with various PVC processing methods, including extrusion, injection molding, blow molding, and calendaring. * Strong understanding of material flow behavior, thermal stability, and temperature control during processing. * Awareness of sustainable practices, including eco-friendly recycling methods for PVC. * Knowledge of industry standards and testing methods (e.g., tensile, impact, elongation, hardness, etc.). 3. Education A Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Chemistry, or a closely related field is required for this position. M.S. or Ph.D. degree in one of these fields is preferred. 4. Other Certification/Training Required To Gain Function-Related Technical Knowledge * Will require training in Company Policies and Procedures after hire. * Current employees must meet all technical and safety training requirements for current position, as specified in the Master Training Plan.
