The Village Institute (VI) is a holistic family support center and leadership incubator for refugee & immigrant families in Northwest Aurora, Colorado. Inspired and co-designed by motivated women and youth working to uplift their own families and communities: Our mission is to cultivate a multigenerational ecosystem that uplifts the power of refugee and immigrant families and brings them closer to their neighbors. As a Nonprofit Board Member at The Village Institute, you will play an important role in shaping our organization's future and driving to fulfill our mission. You will provide leadership, strategic guidance, and governance oversight, working closely with fellow board members and the executive team to drive impact. The board is responsible for governance and leadership, fiduciary responsibility, policy and decision making, committee participation, fundraising, advocacy and networking, risk management, evaluation and impact assessment, compliance, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to guide the organization's growth and impact.
  • Actively engage in financial oversight and fundraising initiatives to ensure the organization's financial health.
  • Participate in board meetings, discussions, and decision-making to shape organizational policies and strategies.
  • Serve on committees, leveraging your skills to contribute to specific areas of the organization.
  • Support fundraising efforts, including giving and/or raising a meaningful financial contribution, leveraging personal connections, and participating in fundraising events and campaigns.
  • Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for VI and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for us to advance our mission.
  • Identify potential risks and collaborate with the board to develop strategies for risk mitigation.
  • Work collaboratively with other board members and executive team to assess our performance, measure impact, and enhance our effectiveness in achieving our mission.
  • Ensure that the Village Institute adheres to all relevant nonprofit laws and regulations, including reporting requirements.
  • Engage with staff, volunteers, donors, and community members to gain insights that inform decision-making.
  • Passion for The Village Institute's mission and values, especially relating to refugee and immigrant communities.
  • Relevant expertise or experience in fields such as nonprofit management, fundraising and philanthropy, nonprofit and/or immigration law, etc.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with a diverse team and embrace various perspectives.
  • Availability to attend meetings and participate in board-related activities regularly.
