About The Position

This role involves leading Zoom’s next generation real time Web media architecture. Optimizing audio and video delivery for web based clients across multiple browsers and operating systems data flow across clients and servers at large scale. You will influence the technical roadmap, collaborating with senior leaders while remaining hands on in development, writing production code and directly participating in the U.S. release and support cycle for core Web media systems. About the Team The Audio-Video team serves as Zoom's technical foundation, handling the entire media pipeline from device capture through encoding, transmission, network adaptation, and rendering. The team manages multiple product lines including the native Zoom client, web-based client, and Video SDK offerings.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelors degree in computer science or related field.
  • Individuals with extensive, practical expertise in developing production-ready WebRTC solutions or optimizing high-performance media server architectures.
  • Require comprehensive knowledge of real-time media protocols, such as ICE, STUN/TURN, DTLS/SRTP, RTP/RTCP, SCTP/DataChannel, and BUNDLE.
  • Expect expertise in A/V internals such as capture, encoding/decoding, jitter buffers, congestion control, synchronization, and media pipeline performance.
  • Value expertise in modern video codecs (VP8/VP9/H.264/H.265/AV1) and hardware acceleration
  • Demonstrate expertise in C++ and JavaScript or TypeScript

Responsibilities

  • Defining and driving the architecture of Zoom’s real-time WebRTC media platform.
  • Building, optimizing, and maintaining end-to-end A/V pipelines across browser, mobile, native clients, and backend media servers.
  • Owning signaling design, peer connection management, QoS, congestion control, and protocol-level implementations.
  • Driving the creation of SFU functionalities, simulcast/SVC workflows, bitrate optimization, device oversight, and audio/video alignment.
  • Ensuring full compliance with IETF/W3C standards and maintaining cross-browser interoperability.
  • Designing observability systems including metrics, QoE monitoring, automated testing, and large-scale stress frameworks.
