Video Production Manager

Deseret Book Company
2dHybrid

About The Position

The Video Production Manager will lead Deseret Book’s in-house audio and visual function, elevating the craft and impact of our video, podcast, and motion content across channels. Reporting to the Creative Director and serving on the creative management team alongside the Art Director, Lead Copywriter, and Lead Graphic Designer, this leader will manage our Video Production Specialist and build scalable processes that turn content direction from our brand, content, and marketing teams into compelling, narrative-driven stories that advance our mission and brands. This role owns end-to-end production—storyboarding through final delivery—for long-form YouTube series, video-enabled podcasts, out-of-home and venue deliverables (e.g., Jumbotrons, LED halo/ribbon boards), retail video walls, short-form social content, and web video. The A/V Production Manager will also act as a key collaborator and creative liaison with external agencies and production partners on larger-scale, higher-production projects (e.g., TV commercials), ensuring creative alignment, technical excellence, and efficient handoffs. Success looks like creating meaningful, on-brand content that increases awareness, engagement, and conversion while improving speed-to-market, consistency, and production quality.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of professional A/V production experience with a strong portfolio/reel spanning long-form, short-form, and branded content; 2+ years in a lead or manager role overseeing people or contractors.
  • Expert end-to-end production skills: Pre-production: creative development, scripting/storyboarding, shot planning, scheduling, budgeting, crewing, and location management. Production: directing, multi-cam operation, camera systems, lenses, gimbals/sliders, lighting setups (studio and on-location), and professional audio capture (shotgun/lavaliers, mixers/recorders). Post-production: non-linear editing, motion graphics, color correction/grading, audio sweetening/mixing, sound design, and delivery/versioning across platforms.
  • Technical proficiency: Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Photoshop, Illustrator); DaVinci Resolve (color) or equivalent; familiarity with media management, proxies, and archival workflows.
  • Podcast workflows and DAWs; multi-cam sync, remote guest capture, and studio signal flow.
  • Deliverables for social, web, retail video walls, and venue systems; deep knowledge of aspect ratios, codecs, bitrates, color spaces, and display requirements for large-format LED.
  • Strong storytelling sensibility with the ability to turn strategic briefs and subject-matter expertise into accessible, narrative-driven content that aligns with our brand and mission.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate within a creative leadership team and across marketing stakeholders; comfortable giving and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Project management excellence: prioritization, timeline/budget ownership, vendor management, and clear communication with non-technical partners.
  • Familiarity with review/approval and asset management tools (e.g., Frame.io, Asana/Airtable, DAM/MAM systems) and disciplined file hygiene and version control.
  • Working knowledge of rights management, talent/releases, and music licensing for commercial use.
  • Detail-oriented, resourceful, and calm under deadline pressure; capable of managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Physical requirements: ability to lift and transport production equipment as needed and occasional travel for on-location shoots and venue deliverables.

Nice To Haves

  • Motion design depth, live-streaming experience, and a background in photography (product and lifestyle) to support day-to-day still needs.
  • Familiarity with the interests and culture of our core customer communities to ensure content is relevant and empathetic to our audiences.
  • Familiarity with Adobe design tools is a plus when collaborating across creative disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end production across formats: concept/storyboarding, scripting in partnership with content teams, directing, filming, lighting, audio capture, editing, motion graphics, color correction/grading, audio sweetening/mixing, versioning, and final delivery to spec.
  • Produce long-form YouTube series, video podcasts (multi-cam), venue/OOH deliverables (Jumbotrons, LED halos/ribbon boards), retail video walls, short-form social content, and web video; define templates/show packages to scale quality.
  • Ensure brand alignment, technical accuracy (aspect ratios, resolutions, codecs, frame rates, color spaces), and rigorous QA; support day-to-day photography needs as needed.
  • Own production timelines, budgets, and resource plans; balance planned campaigns with agile requests.
  • Manage and mentor the Video Production Specialist; recruit and oversee freelancers/vendors when needed; build a positive, feedback-rich team culture.
  • Own equipment strategy and studio readiness: inventory, maintenance, procurement/rentals, safety, and on-set best practices.
  • Implement efficient workflows and tools (production calendars, shot lists, checklists, review/approval, asset naming/versioning); partner with Marketing Ops on intake and prioritization.
  • Establish and track KPIs (content velocity, on-time delivery, stakeholder satisfaction, cost-per-asset, engagement quality); drive continuous improvement.
  • Maintain rights management and compliance: talent releases, usage permissions, and music licensing.
  • Translate content direction and marketing briefs into clear A/V concepts, storyboards, and production plans; collaborate closely with the Creative Director, Art Director, Lead Copywriter, and Lead Graphic Designer for integrated, consistent storytelling.
  • Serve as the in-house A/V expert and creative liaison with external agencies and production partners on high-production initiatives (e.g., commercials), aligning on feasibility, specs, file exchanges, and feedback cycles.
  • Coordinate with venues, retail operations, social, eCommerce, and other stakeholders to validate technical requirements and delivery timelines for channel-specific needs.
