About The Position

Performs complex design, installation, maintenance, and repair of video production and control room equipment and information systems used to record and transmit live and recorded productions in multiple media formats.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • Knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems.
  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
  • Knowledge of web media formats and related applications.

  • Knowledge of applicable processes, techniques, and methods.
  • Knowledge of City practice, policy, and procedures.

  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Radio-TV-Film (RTVF), Electrical Engineering, and Telecommunications or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years of experience in a field related to the job.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver License.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees day-to-day tasks and assignments for control room operations and staff.
  • Installs, configures, and operates electronic equipment used to record, edit, and transmit video productions.
  • Designs and maintains layouts, flowcharts, and/or schematics of control room and audio and video equipment.
  • Integrates video programming with live web casting and video-on-demand equipment and needs.
  • Creates, revises, and implements Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) related to control room use and equipment for use by City staff.
  • Mixes and regulates sound inputs and feeds and/or coordinates audio feeds with live broadcasts and recordings.
  • Troubleshoots and performs repairs and routine cleaning of audio and video equipment.
  • Sets up, hauls, loads, and unloads equipment; operates cameras, lighting equipment, teleprompters, microphones, and other audio equipment; and monitors and adjusts equipment during recording sessions.
  • Constructs and positions sets, lighting equipment, and other City equipment and property.
  • Determines video production equipment needs and makes recommendation for purchases.
  • Researches technology solutions to address video production needs.
  • Responsible for full range of supervisory activities: selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.
