Do you enjoy taking a rough concept and turning it into something people actually stop to watch? If you're a motion designer and video editor who gets excited by complex ideas and knows how to make them feel cinematic, this might be your kind of role. For nearly 35 years, Microsoft Research has shaped the technology people use everyday— conducting fundamental science and technology research that advances AI, state-of-the-art computing, and creates new foundations for others to build upon. The Media team is responsible for bringing that research to life for global audiences. The team is looking for a Video Editor & Motion Designer who enjoys translating complex technology stories into engaging visual content. In this role, you’ll join a tight-knit creative team with strong collaboration and excellent retention, with many team members working together for 5+ years. You’ll create videos that showcase cutting-edge research and emerging technologies, while using both motion design and editing to bring ideas to life. The role offers space to explore creative directions, shape concepts during post-production, and collaborate closely with designers and creative partners. When applying, please include a portfolio or demo reel showcasing motion graphics, video editing work, and any short-form or social video examples. Position description In this role, you’ll edit video content and create motion graphics that bring research stories and technology concepts to life. You’ll work across formats including sizzle reels, branded storytelling pieces, and short social clips—helping transform early concepts, storyboards, and design assets into polished visual narratives. You’ll collaborate with designers and creative partners across the Microsoft Research team, occasionally translating their static designs into motion while also contributing ideas during post-production. A significant portionof the work will focus on short-form social content, including clips from podcasts and talking-head interviews. This role is hybrid and based in Redmond, WA. The team typically collaborates in person several days per week depending on production needs, so candidates should be within commuting distance and available to work onsite when required. Working with 2A Consulting This role is an Embedded Consultant position, meaning you’ll sit directly with the Microsoft team to provide hands-on support and be employed by 2A Consulting. This hybrid engagement runs through June 30, 2026, with strong potential for renewal. While you’ll spend most of your days working directly with your team at Microsoft, 2A offers multiple points of connection to support you in your role and career. We’ll meet with you and your Microsoft manager regularly to see how we can support the engagement, and you’ll have opportunities to engage with 2A through community-building events and professional development opportunities.
