About The Position

The Iowa County District Attorney's Office is seeking a full-time Victim Witness Coordinator responsible for ensuring compliance with victim and witness rights as outlined in the Wisconsin Constitution and Chapter 950 of the Wisconsin State Statutes. This role serves as a liaison between victims, witnesses, and the criminal justice system, providing necessary support and assistance throughout the court process.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or Technical degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Psychology, or a closely related field.
  • Two years of legal support work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Credential certification through State Victim/Witness organizations to be obtained and maintained after training.
  • Computer skills and knowledge.
  • Reliable transportation for meetings, trainings, and events.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Act as an advocate and liaison on behalf of crime victims within the criminal justice system to assure the protection of victim rights.
  • Contact victims and witnesses to inform them of the status of their cases and resolve any issues regarding court appearances.
  • Inform victims and witnesses of their rights and relevant legal procedures, and make referrals to community resources as needed.
  • Provide court preparation and counseling related to testifying.
  • Accompany and support victims and witnesses during court hearings and meetings with legal staff.
  • Assist victims and witnesses in understanding their roles in pending cases.
  • Coordinate meetings between victims/witnesses and legal staff of the Iowa County District Attorney's Office.
  • Assist victims in developing and submitting Victim Impact Statements for sentencing.
  • Act as an advocate with various court and police agencies.
  • Investigate and locate hard-to-find victims and witnesses.
  • Make arrangements for victims and witnesses with special needs, including children and the elderly.
  • Arrange for security measures and protective services when necessary.
  • Assist victims in determining restitution and processing claims for compensation.
  • Inform victims about the State Crime Victim Compensation Program and assist with applications.
  • Assist victims in preparing actions involving domestic abuse and harassment as per Wisconsin Statutes.
  • Prepare and submit all required reports to the State regarding Victim Witness Programs.
  • Prepare dispositional reports for criminal cases and notify victims and law enforcement agencies.
  • Prepare victim notification applications for the Parole Board and send notifications to victims.
  • Make public speeches and presentations to promote and educate the public.
