About The Position

Meeting autonomously with victims/witnesses in criminal cases and acting as a liaison between prosecutors and victim/witnesses, as cases progress through the criminal justice system. Providing information in non-technical terms to crime victims and witnesses regarding the criminal justice process and providing related emotional support. Keeping staff advised on contacts with victims and witnesses, and notating case files in a timely manner. Performing a variety of duties requiring knowledge of the policies and practices of the State’s Attorney’s Office and the law enforcement community. Collecting and entering data and maintaining documentation for general case purposes and in support of grants. Other duties as assigned by the State’s Attorney. Timely and regular attendance is required as is the ability to interact productively with co-workers and satisfactorily perform the duties and functions of the job. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, human services, or a related field – or equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple duties and priorities under limited supervision.
  • Accurate and independent judgment in dealing with individuals traumatized by a criminal act.
  • Ability to provide empathetic emotional support to a wide variety of people in a sensitive and non-judgmental manner.
  • Able to foster a positive and productive work atmosphere with team members and demonstrate a professional demeanor.
  • Good understanding of the criminal justice process.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products and Adobe and have an ability to quickly learn/adapt to other computer programs.
  • Must have excellent data entry skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and high case volume environment, where circumstances may evolve rapidly.
  • Must have had satisfactory performance in prior employment.
  • Applicant will be subject to a post-offer civil and criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous work experience as a victim/witness coordinator or advocate.
  • Experience with applying for and managing grants.
  • Familiarity with court and law enforcement computer programs such as Odyssey, JustWare, SAVIN, among others.
  • Previous work experience in de-escalating traumatized or angry individuals.
