About The Position

The Victim Advocate position at the Greene County Prosecutor's Office is a full-time role focused on providing direct services to crime victims and witnesses. As part of the Common Pleas Court Adult Docket Court Advocacy Team, the advocate will assist victims through crisis intervention, emotional support, and court advocacy, ensuring they are informed of their rights and available resources. This role requires participation in an on-call rotation for crisis intervention services, highlighting the commitment to supporting victims during critical times.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in social sciences, criminal justice, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in an advocacy-related position preferred.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system, victims' rights, and crisis intervention strategies.
  • Well-developed critical thinking/problem solving skills, highly organized, and self-motivated.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to engage and effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Valid Ohio motor vehicle operator's license and reliable transportation.
  • Reliable phone service.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive assistance, including crisis intervention, emotional support, and court advocacy services to victims and witnesses of crime.
  • Facilitate notification to crime victims regarding their rights and responsibilities as outlined in the Ohio Constitution and ORC Chapter 2930.
  • Disseminate information and assist clients in applying for VINE notification and the Ohio Victims of Crime Compensation Program.
  • Support crime victims during the investigative process with law enforcement.
  • Participate on the court advocacy team, following established service protocols.
  • Participate in evening/weekend/holiday on-call rotation for crisis intervention services.
  • Attend forensic interviews of children referred for services to the Child Advocacy Center.
  • Assist law enforcement/Coroner in making compassionate death notifications to survivors of homicide and traumatic death.
  • Adhere to established ethical, confidentiality, and behavioral standards of conduct.
