About The Position

The Victim Advocate position at the Utah Department of Public Safety, State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is designed to support witnesses and victims of crime by providing essential on-scene assistance and guidance throughout the criminal justice process. This role is crucial in ensuring that victims receive the necessary information, resources, and emotional support during challenging times.

Requirements

• Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with people sensitively and professionally.
• Clear and concise communication skills.
• Ability to read and understand written information.
• Knowledge of applicable civil and criminal justice laws, rules, regulations, and policies.
• Ability to coordinate activities or tasks of people and deliver presentations or training effectively.
• Willingness to travel throughout the state and work variable hours, including on-call rotation.
• Residence within 50 miles of the Investigation Bureau Office.

Nice To Haves

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Social or Behavioral Science or equivalent work-related experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide crisis intervention for witnesses and victims of crime.
• Provide victims and their families with information concerning rights, options, benefits, services, goals, and expectations.
• Conduct interviews to determine victim needs and evaluate to make appropriate referrals.
• Act as a facilitator in problem-solving situations.
• Provide information to those seeking assistance and suggest alternatives/solutions.
• Serve as a liaison for victims with law enforcement and prosecutors.
• Manage grants and programs related to victim services (e.g., VOCA and VINE).
• Deliver presentations to staff and the general public, and create marketing, promotional, or interpretive materials.
