About The Position

The Clay County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Victim Advocate to provide critical support and guidance to victims and witnesses navigating the criminal justice system. You will serve as the primary liaison between victims and the office, ensuring their interests are represented and they are fully informed through every stage of the legal process.

Requirements

  • Empathy & Professionalism: Skill in interviewing and eliciting information from individuals experiencing significant stress or trauma.
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to manage databases, prepare spreadsheets, and utilize case management software.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with Missouri statutes regarding victim rights, legal terminology, and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Education: Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: Two (2) years of experience in human services delivery or a related field.
  • Certification: Must possess a Victim Advocate Certificate or have completed a victim advocacy training program.
  • Background: Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Advocacy & Support: Provide crisis intervention and general support to victims; accompany victims and witnesses to court proceedings and trials.
  • Case Liaison: Act as the primary office contact for victims/witnesses, notifying them of hearing dates, case progress, and final dispositions.
  • Trial Preparation: Prepare victims to testify, coordinate witness appearances for jury trials, and advise them on probable lines of questioning from attorneys.
  • Resource Coordination: Assist victims with filing for Missouri Crime Victims Compensation and refer them to appropriate community agencies for counseling or housing.
  • Documentation: Maintain thorough case documentation and statistical records using automated case management systems.
  • Safety Planning: Monitor and report instances of victim intimidation or harassment to law enforcement and the prosecutor's office.
