About The Position

Provides crisis support to victims of sexual abuse/assault by assisting them through the criminal justice process. Performs related follow-up and records management tasks. Organized, dependable, and sensitive in dealing with trauma. Able to work effectively with team, including outside community providers.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Two years direct victim services care experience required.
  • Candidate must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License in good standing, current auto insurance, with their own vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree preferred (will substitute years of experience.
  • Spanish or Haitian-Creole speaking preferred, additional compensation available for those that qualify.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate Daily Advocate meeting for staffing all helpline calls/crisis clients.
  • Schedule and facilitate meetings as needed to keep advocates on task for planning fundraising events, Sexual Assault Awareness Month Activities/Events, and other monthly contract and certification requirements of the sexual assault program.
  • Keeps Supervisor informed of needed changes to departmental procedures and departmental handbook up to date.
  • Ensures advocate team is facilitating support group options to meet the needs of victims in the service area.
  • Keep advocates on task regarding reporting requirements and data needed for a variety of contract reports.
  • Coordinate Rape Prevention Education activities conducted by advocate team.
  • Provides on-call crisis intervention to primary and secondary victims of sexual assault/abuse.
  • Contributed to development and implementation of safety plan.
  • Referred children and their families for additional services as identified.
  • Responds to location of victim within 45 minutes of first notification.
  • Responds to telephone crisis calls immediately following notification.
  • Accompany victims to law enforcement agency, crime scene, or other destinations to provide support and education about the legal system.
  • Provides information about sexually transmitted diseases, legal proceedings, victim’s rights and referrals to other community resources as needed.
  • Completes all required documentation to comply with Attorney General’s Office of Crime Compensation, Rape Crisis Program standards, and Centerstone standards.
  • Verifies that advocate team monthly reporting paperwork adequately completed and turned in for monthly reporting.
  • Keeps departmental procedures and departmental handbook updated.
  • Keeps Supervisor advised of any problems that arise in the department, while on-call, or if unable to meet requirements of commitment to the program.
  • Maintains good working relationships with SART and CHIP members and attends meetings and provides outreach/awareness/Prevention Education activities in the community.
