About The Position

The NCCU Office of Student Success oversees all academic affairs activities related to student success and provides collaborative support for various administrative functions for student success and well-being (in concert with the Division of Student Affairs). The Office also oversees the University College, International Programs and Community Engagement, Upper Division Academic Advising, the University Honors Program, Cheatham-White Scholars, and Undergraduate Research. While responsible for student success campuswide, this position is primarily responsible for key student success outcomes relative to the UNC System Performance Metrics: Four-year graduation rate, Undergraduate degree efficiency, and Average earned credits per year. Primary Purpose of Position The Vice Provost will oversee the development and execution of a university-wide student success plan that leverages data analytics, proactive advising, early-alert systems, and academic support programs to improve retention and graduation rates. This role will also coordinate with deans and department chairs to align academic policies, curriculum design, and faculty engagement with student success objectives. Additionally, the position will lead initiatives that enhance student belonging, well-being, and career readiness-key components of overall institutional effectiveness. The Vice Provost for Student Success leads the Office for Student Success. The Vice Provost reports directly to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and is a member of the Provost's Executive Leadership Team. The Vice Provost provides campuswide leadership for student success at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional student levels. The candidate will lead collaborative, cross-functional teams to design and implement student success initiatives to support student success at NCCU. Reporting to this position are the Dean of University College, Assistant Vice Chancellor for International Programs and Community Engagement, Director of the University Honors Program, Director of Cheatham-White Scholars, and Coordinator for Upper Division Advising. By establishing this senior leadership position, the university will ensure that student success is not viewed as a singular office responsibility but as an institutional priority embedded in every aspect of the academic enterprise. The Vice Provost will report directly to the Provost and serve as a member of the Academic Affairs leadership team, ensuring strategic alignment between student support initiatives, enrollment goals, and academic excellence.

Requirements

  • Strong skills in team leadership, data analysis, and cross-campus collaboration.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead institutional change and improve student success outcomes.
  • Doctorate degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 7-10 years of progressive leadership experience in higher education.
  • Proven track record in academic advising, student support, and student success.
