Vice President Role: Private Equity Vice President Hughes & Company is actively hiring for a Vice President to join the investment team. This individual will play a central role in identifying, evaluating, and supporting investments in innovative healthcare software and technology-enabled services companies, and gain unique exposure into portfolio operations and value creation initiatives. Position Overview The Vice President role at Hughes & Company offers an opportunity to take a hands-on leadership position within our investment team, focused on identifying, executing, and managing private equity investments in healthcare technology. The role spans the full investment lifecycle—from deal sourcing and due diligence through closing, portfolio management, and exit—while partnering closely with portfolio company executives and board members to drive strategic and operational value. The Vice President will play a key role in shaping investment theses, leading transaction processes, and supporting portfolio growth initiatives. This position also includes mentoring Associates and Analysts, fostering collaboration across the team, and contributing to the firm’s long-term success. Ideal candidates have 6–10 years of relevant experience in private equity, investment banking, or corporate development, with a strong understanding of growth-stage healthcare and technology businesses. We are looking for individuals who combine strategic insight with executional excellence, and who thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. This role is based in our Chicago office and involves close, daily collaboration with Partners and portfolio leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a top-tier U.S. university; MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • 6–10+ years of relevant professional experience in private equity, investment banking, consulting, corporate development, or strategy, with a track record of leading deal processes
  • Deep understanding of growth-stage businesses with recurring revenues, particularly within the healthcare and technology sectors
  • Superior analytical, strategic, and financial modeling skills with the ability to evaluate complex investment opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with management teams, board members, and external advisors
  • Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring and developing junior professionals
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and persuasively to internal and external stakeholders
  • Professional presence, humility, and a collaborative approach to problem solving
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with junior team members, such as analysts or associates, supporting their growth and integrating them into successful team outcomes

Responsibilities

  • Deal Execution: · Lead the execution of new investments, managing all aspects of due diligence, legal review, and negotiations through closing · Oversee preparation of financial models, valuation analyses, investment memoranda, and presentation of recommendations to the Investment Committee · Direct and coordinate third-party diligence providers across accounting, tax, technology, market, and legal functions · Serve as the primary point of contact with counterparties during transaction negotiations
  • Sourcing: · Develop and maintain a robust network of executives, advisors, and industry experts to generate proprietary deal flow · Identify new investment opportunities through market research, thematic development, and proactive outreach · Represent Hughes & Company at industry conferences and events, elevating the firm’s brand presence and cultivating relationships with key stakeholders
  • Portfolio Management: · Serve as the principal point of contact for assigned portfolio companies, overseeing strategic, operational, and financial performance · Monitor company performance, identify risks and opportunities, and develop actionable recommendations for growth and transformation · Guide portfolio companies in evaluating new markets, product strategies, and acquisition opportunities · Ensure effective reporting, governance, and compliance across portfolio investments
  • Firm Leadership & Development: · Mentor, coach, and develop Associates and Analysts, providing structured feedback and fostering professional growth · Collaborate with Partners on firm strategy, investment thesis refinement, and best practices for execution and portfolio management · Contribute to internal initiatives to improve firm operations, systems, and culture
  • Strategic Firm Initiatives: · Contribute proactively to the refinement of Hughes & Company’s investment strategy, thesis development, and competitive positioning. · Lead or participate in internal initiatives aimed at strengthening firm operations, culture, and industry presence
