Role Overview Goldman Sachs Fundamental Equity business within Asset Management is looking for a Consumer Analyst to join its Small/SMID Team in Fundamental Equity. The analyst will assume responsibilities for the Consumer Sector, across broad areas like retailers, housing, media companies, restaurants, lodging companies among other areas. The Small/SMID team employs a bottoms up, quality focused style looking for companies with good businesses, led by strong management teams, that are trading at reasonable valuations. The process is heavily dependent on intellectual curiosity, a can do attitude and a longer term perspective.

Requirements

  • 5-15 years of related experience at a financial services firm, preferably within investment research
  • Strong modeling, analytical and quantitative skills
  • Strong writing and communication skills, ability translate these into organized approaches of persuasion.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Ability to prioritize and respond quickly to evolving workflow
  • Comfort with the unique nature of Small Cap Investing.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well with teams
  • Comfortable taking initiative and demonstrating resourcefulness
  • Familiarity with vertically specific tools like Bloomberg or FactSet; Understanding of alternative data source usage in the investment process

Nice To Haves

  • Progress toward an MBA or CFA is attractive

Responsibilities

  • The analyst will be responsible for executing the investment research process for the consumer sector. This includes new idea generation, maintenance research for existing holdings; lateral implications of broad and narrow consumer and macro/micro economic trends
  • Responsibilities include building and maintaining financial models, conducting valuation analysis (comps, DCF, IRR, Merger models, private market value), writing investment briefs and presentations, conducting company/industry due diligence, meeting with management teams and industry participants in office and at industry conferences.
  • The analyst will have to look towards traditional and alternative forms of data collection, consumer behavior and predictive approaches for investment outcomes.
  • The analyst will partner with portfolio managers to understand style differentiation, preferences and direction of portfolio travel.
  • The analyst will also train, mentor and coach younger team members across all economic sectors
