About The Position

LSG seeks a vice president to lead and advise on high-stakes crisis communications matters. This role works directly with CEOs and senior executives to manage complex, high-visibility situations that affect corporate reputation, leadership credibility, and organizational stability. The ideal candidate brings significant experience in crisis and issues management, demonstrates sound judgment under pressure, and can provide clear, practical counsel in moments where decisions must be made quickly and thoughtfully. This is a hybrid role based in our downtown DC office Monday-Thursday, with remote work available on Fridays. The position requires an average of 2-3 days of travel per month.

Requirements

  • 8-12 years of experience in crisis communications, issues management, corporate communications, or strategic advisory roles.
  • Demonstrated experience advising senior executives through complex, high-profile situations.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise materials under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion; experience handling confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Understanding of the political, legislative, and regulatory environment and its relevance to organizational risk.
  • Interest in practice development and contributing to the growth of a crisis communications offering.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior advisor to CEOs and executive leadership teams before, during, and after crisis situations, providing strategic guidance on decision-making, communications approach, and leadership positioning.
  • Lead crisis response efforts related to litigation, regulatory and legislative matters, workplace incidents, cyber events, leadership changes, and other sensitive or high-profile situations.
  • Develop crisis strategies, messaging frameworks, and communications plans across internal and external stakeholders, and oversee execution.
  • Provide real-time counsel during fast-moving situations, including media and social media monitoring, escalation management, and guidance on timing, tone, and visibility.
  • Prepare executives for media interviews, public statements, internal communications, and board engagement, including drafting statements, talking points, Q&A, and briefing materials under tight deadlines.
  • Manage client teams and ensure consistent, high-quality client service; mentor and develop early career professionals.
  • Collaborate with LSG’s public affairs, communications, research, and creative teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Support crisis preparedness initiatives such as scenario planning, simulations, vulnerability assessments, and post-crisis evaluation and recovery.
  • Contribute to business development efforts, thought leadership, and the continued growth of LSG’s crisis communications practice.
