About The Position

The VP of Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting will be an integral member of our corporate accounting team at Open Lending and will report into the Chief Accounting Officer. The VP of Technical Accounting and Financial Reporting will be responsible for preparing and/or reviewing technical accounting areas such as revenue recognition, stock-based compensation, debt and leases and capitalized R&D costs; drafting and/or reviewing technical accounting memos for complex areas; timely and compliant filing of all SEC periodic and current reports (i.e., Forms 10-Q, 10-K and 8-K) pursuant to all GAAP and SEC requirements and coordinating with Investor Relations on our earnings releases and investor presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Accounting required.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of relevant experience with a focus on public company financial reporting (SEC registrants) and technical accounting research and documentation required.
  • Working knowledge of basic SOX internal control requirements.
  • Ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with C-level executives, SEC counsel, investor relations, operations and external auditors required.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership, organization, time management and communication skills required.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.

Nice To Haves

  • Active CPA license preferred.
  • Experience with systems such as NetSuite and Workiva a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the accounting and documentation for technical areas such as revenue recognition, leases, acquisitions, capitalized R&D costs and debt as needed.
  • Prepare and/or review stock-based compensation and related assumptions including accounting for modifications and other equity transactions as needed.
  • Coordinate with service providers.
  • Research and recommend accounting treatment, including the preparation and review of position memos for our complex transactions.
  • Providing technical accounting consultation to senior management on significant transactions before they are executed and performing ad hoc research to advise management on the possible accounting implications.
  • Review changes in accounting standards, research the implications and develop recommendations for how to manage the accounting treatment and/or manage related disclosures.
  • Assist in the completion of financial reporting requirements in accordance with internal policies and US GAAP, which may include the preparation and/or review of the 10-K, 10-Q and 8-K filings, among others.
  • Prepare disclosures for significant events and transactions such as revenue, debt, stock-based compensation and other technical accounting areas.
  • Prepare and/or review the financial statements, cash flow statement, earnings per share and other support files used in internal analyses and the preparation of the filings.
  • Coordinate with Investor Relations and SEC Counsel on the quarterly earnings releases and investor presentations.
  • Help lead a team of direct/indirect reports; provide functional leadership by fostering teamwork, providing coaching and developing team members.
  • Being flexible and adaptable regarding changes in responsibilities that may arise based on business needs or team considerations.
  • Manage communications and relationship with external auditors on financial statements and accounting issues.
  • Prepare, document and update internal controls associated with the assigned functions and responsibilities.
