Enterprise Digital plays a critical role in delivering differentiated digital experiences and scalable platforms across American Express. To support this mission, we are seeking an experienced risk leader to ensure strong technology and operational risk governance while enabling innovation and speed. We are seeking a Vice President, Technology Risk Advisory who will provide senior technology and operational risk leadership for Enterprise Digital. This leader will oversee a team of risk advisors embedding fit-for-purpose risk practices across digital product platforms, design, experimentation, and analytics —ensuring strong governance while enabling innovation and accelerating time to market. The ideal candidate is a strategic and solutions-oriented risk leader with deep expertise in digital technology and operational risk management. This individual must demonstrate the ability to influence senior stakeholders, drive measurable risk outcomes in complex digital environments, and build enduring credibility across Enterprise Digital and Technology leadership. The ideal candidate will have the following characteristics: • Strong knowledge of technology risk domains including digital experiences, design, infrastructure, application security, identity and access management, cloud and resilience. • Demonstrated digital fluency, including a strong understanding of modern digital product ecosystems, customer journey architecture, experimentation methodologies, and platform-based engineering models. • Executive presence with the ability to translate complex technical risk concepts into clear business implications. • Proven track record of building high-performing teams and influencing outcomes in matrixed organizations. • Experience engaging with large-bank regulators within complex global environments and effectively partnering and influencing across all lines of defense. • Strong analytical judgment and ability to operate decisively under pressure.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in Technology Risk, Operational Risk, Digital Risk, or related control functions within a large, regulated institution.
  • Demonstrated senior leadership experience within Technology Risk Advisory or similar first line environments, including leading high-performing teams.
  • Experience advising senior technology, digital, or product executives and influencing outcomes in complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Strong understanding of digital product delivery models (Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, platform-based architectures).
  • Experience overseeing technology risks across digital customer journeys, experimentation platforms, AI/ML-driven capabilities, cloud environments, APIs, and platform resilience.
  • Proven ability to drive measurable risk reduction while enabling business agility.
  • Experience engaging with oversight and assurance teams and supporting audits, reviews, and regulatory examinations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior Technology Risk Advisory leader for Enterprise Digital.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of risk advisors aligned to digital product and platform portfolios.
  • Provide strategic technology and operational risk advisory across digital platforms, design, experimentation, analytics, and engineering teams.
  • Embed scalable, fit-for-purpose risk practices within agile and experimentation environments.
  • Oversee risks related to customer-facing digital journeys, AI/ML-driven decisioning, experimentation frameworks, cloud and API ecosystems, and platform resilience.
  • Deliver forward-looking, decision-oriented risk insights to senior leadership.
  • Partner with technology, information security, and control owners to prioritize remediation and drive measurable risk reduction.
  • Strengthen adoption of enterprise digital platform and control standards.
  • Enhance issue management, governance discipline, and risk transparency across Enterprise Digital.
  • Collaborate with second line risk, compliance, and audit partners to ensure regulatory alignment and clear accountability.
