Vice President - Tech Advisory

FleishmanHillardSan Francisco, CA
3h$77,000 - $175,000Hybrid

About The Position

FleishmanHillard is the world’s most complete global communications firm, specializing in public relations, public affairs, marketing, paid media, and transmedia and social content. FleishmanHillard delivers on The power of true, reflecting the firm’s high values and unique ability to guide clients through a world demanding unprecedented authenticity and transparency. The San Francisco office has an immediate opening for a Vice President to join us in a hybrid role in our rapidly expanding technology advisory practice. This position is ideal for a strategic advisor and big-picture thinker who is energized by helping enterprise technology companies differentiate not just through AI and product hype, but through authentic storytelling that builds belief with the full constellation of stakeholders that matter: investors, employees, policymakers, talent markets, and society. This is a job for someone who understands the critical gap in how tech companies operate today—they have masterfully built go-to-market strategies for enterprise buyers while not neglecting the harder strategic work of bringing other stakeholders along on a coherent narrative about what their innovations mean and why it matters. This role will help reposition clients as strategic leaders rather than product vendors, by developing and executing media-first but not media-only communications programs. This is advisory work more than a traditional “tech PR” role. The right candidate will help redefine how tech companies lead in today’s AI era when technical capability alone no longer builds belief. FleishmanHillard values the importance of impact and inclusion to strengthen the bonds between us, grow our people and create spaces for everyone to thrive. We stay true to our commitment to our people and the communities in which we live and work. As part of our ongoing effort to be the world’s most inclusive agency, we are committed to seeking candidates who possess and demonstrate a profound interest in furthering our impact and inclusion goals.

Requirements

  • 8-10+ years of experience, and agency experience, with broad technology and business understanding with strong analytical abilities and critical, creative thinking.
  • Genuine passion for pitching media and building deep, mutually beneficial relationships with journalists in traditional and new media. A proven track record of developing strong connections with journalists across AI storytelling, enterprise tech, consumer tech, and/or business media, and consistently landing stories that matter. Loving the craft of media relations and understanding how to work directly with reporters to shape narratives that drive results.
  • Experience across all dimensions of modern communications. While this is a media-first role, FH is a modern communications agency that believes what it takes to win goes beyond the headlines. Experience creating and running communications campaigns that drive to a consistent takeaway, anchored in an audience-first mindset, and creating a consistent presence (not just moving from product launch to product launch) across owned, earned, social, influencer and paid amplification.
  • Ability to leverage data and research to drive strategic decisions. Work collaboratively with FleishmanHillard's research, insights, and intelligence colleagues at True Global Intelligence to access and interpret data, trends, and metrics that inform client strategy. Fluent in reading research, asking the right questions of data teams, and using insights to counsel clients on strategic positioning, stakeholder engagement priorities, and communications investment, ensuring every recommendation is grounded in evidence rather than assumption.
  • Polished and clear communications, both in writing and speaking, from day-to-day client email to strategic plans, blogs, executive talking points and bylined articles to hosting client meetings, pitching new ideas, and winning the room with clients and potential clients.
  • Good leadership skills, including project management and giving team member’s directions and feedback. This includes coordinating multiple work streams, managing more junior team members, and maintaining quality and composure under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Energetic self-starter and resourceful problem solver. Tend to the client’s ambition and potential as much as the day-to-day delivery of asks.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior product and corporate clients at global technology companies, helping them determine the right communications strategy to build stakeholder confidence, differentiate competitively, and execute business strategy with less friction.
  • Build and maintain media relationships that deliver value to clients. Focus on proactive storytelling, in addition to executing against key business and product milestones. AI storytelling experience a must.
  • Work with senior members of the technology practice to develop integrated strategic positioning that goes beyond product messaging to build authentic corporate narratives that bring investors, employees, policymakers, and society along on a coherent story about what the company stands for and why it matters.
  • Create deep day-to-day client relationships where you challenge assumptions, synthesize market intelligence and stakeholder research, and guide the client to the right strategies that build belief rather than just awareness. That said, we believe good consultants also choose their battles and must work to make the client’s final strategy successful even if that is different than our recommendation.
  • Develop strategic messaging frameworks and storytelling and pitch angles that translate complex technical innovation into clear, differentiated positioning for multiple stakeholder audiences—helping clients own the "why" behind their strategy and communicate it with integrity and clarity.
  • Work across integrated teams to recommend multi-channel solutions—traditional PR, digital, social media, investor relations, employee communications, and more—that align behind a cohesive strategic narrative rather than operating as disconnected tactics.
  • Review market trends and competitive dynamics to identify strategic positioning opportunities; help clients understand where they have permission to lead and where stakeholder friction will emerge, proactively shaping communications strategy to smooth resistance before it hardens.
  • Generate incremental business by taking a strategic view of the entire stakeholder landscape and recommending how integrated communications can unlock business objectives—from M&A execution to talent acquisition to investor confidence to regulatory navigation.

Benefits

  • A range of medical, dental, vision, 401(k) matching, paid time off and/or other benefits also are available.
