About The Position

VP, Strategic Risk Management leads the implementation and ongoing management of the credit union’s strategic and reputation risk management frameworks, including identification, assessment, monitoring, and control of strategic and reputation risks. Working closely with business unit and risk partners, this role also contributes to execution of the risk appetite framework through enterprise risk identification, assessment, and reporting processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Risk Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 5–8 years of experience in risk management, financial analysis, strategy, or related roles within financial services.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise risk management principles and relevant regulatory guidance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work with quantitative and qualitative data to identify insights and trends.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to summarize complex risk topics in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables, work to deadlines, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills; comfortable working across functions and levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory risk management frameworks applicable to large ($50B+) financial institutions, incl. strategic, reputation risk management, and risk appetite frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, maintain, and enhance, as necessary, the enterprise strategic and reputation risk management frameworks ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations, credit union’s strategic plan, and risk appetite.
  • Lead new activities program, ensuring appropriate due diligence and ongoing performance monitoring for strategic initiatives, including products and services.
  • Prepare regular risk reports and presentations for executive management, management committees, and Board, ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and clarity of messaging.
  • Manage open risk issues, ensuring remediation progress updates and supporting documentation meet governance requirements.
  • Coordinate annual and interim updates to the enterprise strategic and reputation top risks and risk appetite statements, quarterly risk profile assessments, including documentation of relevant quantitative data and qualitative insights.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on strategic and reputation risks, contributing to ongoing risk education and awareness efforts across the organization.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing risk management team.
