About The Position

BlackRock's Retirement Solutions (RS) team sits within BlackRock’s Multi-Asset Strategies & Solutions (MASS) business, the investment group at the heart of BlackRock's portfolio construction, asset allocation and active management ecosystem. The RS team is the engine that serves our global retirement business as the center of lifecycle investing, bringing together expertise in strategy, research, portfolio management and technology and is trusted with $635B in client assets as of June 2025. We are a global team with individuals based in San Francisco, New York, Atlanta, Chicago, London, Budapest, and Gurgaon. Our flagship product, LifePath, was the industry’s first target date fund (TDF) invented in 1993. Since then, our culture of innovation continues to this day with the recent launch of LifePath Paycheck, an innovative retirement income solution, representing the next evolution of our LifePath franchise. LifePath is currently available in 8 countries with a variety of implementations including index, active, sustainable, and custom solutions. The RS Investments team is responsible for the development and portfolio management of our investment strategies. Within the RS Investments team, researchers are dedicated to developing investment insights and quantitative methods, while portfolio managers construct and manage investment strategies, covering both off-the-shelf products and LifePath® Solutions. We are looking for a highly motivated junior Portfolio Manager to primarily deliver scalable LifePath® Solutions and analytics to clients, contribute to portfolio management activities and occasionally support the team's investment research and process-improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in quantitative finance, an interest in working with clients to understand and solve their retirement needs, coding skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • 4/5+ years of experience in quantitative research or portfolio management, with direct multi-asset experience being a plus. Other strong analytical / modelling backgrounds would also be considered
  • Solid understanding of economics, statistical methods, capital markets, portfolio construction, and asset allocation theory.
  • Graduate degree in a technical field is a plus
  • Strong coding experience in Python (needed), Matlab/SQL (plus). Experience working with git
  • Follow market and economic developments and understand their impact on portfolios and client outcomes
  • Ability to communicate clearly to internal and external audiences across levels of seniority
  • Ability to multi-task across assignments while producing high-quality work in a fast-paced environment
  • Critical thinking, attention to detail and self-starter attitude

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior PMs with the design, implementation, testing and refinement of changes to our process and codebase
  • Assist with the implementation, review, and processing of our portfolio rebalances
  • Collaborate with researchers and conduct some independent research on topics such as lifecycle investing, asset class deep dives, and multi-asset portfolio construction
  • Engage in statistical programming to support the development of research and PM codebase
  • Support the development of new scalable and automated processes in partnership with software developers
  • Work with clients, sales partners, and product strategists to understand client needs and preferences
  • Work with researchers and senior portfolio managers to design and deploy retirement solutions that align with requirements and construct analytics to help position pros and cons of investment decisions
  • Work with trading, legal and operational partners to implement portfolios as needed
  • Communicate research and solutions effectively to internal and external stakeholders
