About The Position

WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital, located in the heart of Franklin County, Pennsylvania, is a 274-bed community hospital and one of nine premier hospitals in the WellSpan health system. The facility, established in 1895, provides 156,000 community members with leading-edge inpatient, outpatient and emergent care services. It is recognized for state-of-the-art technology and a full range of medical services, including award-winning heart and stroke care, a cardiac catheterization lab, a family birthing unit and Level II NICU, inpatient rehabilitation, a wound center with hyperbaric oxygen therapy and surgical service, including robotic surgery. Chambersburg Hospital is seeking a visionary Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to lead nursing practice and operations with strategic insight, compassionate leadership, and a relentless commitment to patient-centered care. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the CNO will shape the future of nursing across the hospital and collaborate across the organization with oversight for care delivery and nursing excellence.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Nursing or a related field
  • Minimum of 8 years in clinical nursing, with at least 5 years in leadership roles.
  • Proven success in hospital administration, nursing operations, and strategic planning.
  • Active RN license in Pennsylvania or multi-state RN license (required).
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and project management abilities.
  • Experience with clinical systems (Epic preferred), lean methodologies, and evidence-based practice

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership : Define and execute the nursing vision aligned with organizational priorities. Influence hospital and system strategy through active participation in executive forums and board-level discussions.
  • Collaboration: Partner with nursing leaders and service line executives to align care models, share best practices, and drive consistency in nursing standards and patient outcomes.
  • Operational Excellence : Oversee nursing operations, staffing, budgeting, and compliance across all inpatient units. Champion lean management and continuous improvement to drive clinical and financial performance.
  • Leadership: Provide visionary nursing leadership to cultivate a culture of clinical excellence, staff engagement, and patient-centered care, fostering collaboration across multidisciplinary teams to drive continuous improvement and organizational success.
  • Clinical Innovation: Lead the development of evidence-based care models and nursing standards. Foster a culture of shared decision-making, clinical advancement, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Quality & Experience: Ensure delivery of high-quality, patient- and family-centered care. Implement systems to measure and improve outcomes, patient experience, and staff engagement.
  • Compliance : Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies governing health care delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies by continually monitoring operations and its programs and physical properties, and initiating changes where required.
  • Professional Development: Creates and maintains an environment of recognition, nursing excellence aligned with the Pathways to Excellence designations, celebration and acknowledgement of the contributions of the nursing staff to patient care and to the profession of nursing.
