The Vice President of Technology is a visionary and strategic leader responsible for the strategic planning, operational execution, and management of technology across American Public Media Group (APMG) and its subsidiaries. This is an enterprise leadership role that will support digital underwriting, philanthropic development, content distribution; this technology leader will lead the technology vision and team that enables strategic growth areas of the business. This leader will oversee a broad portfolio including: Technical Delivery, Application Development & Cloud Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Architecture & Data Management, Enterprise Development Technologies (e.g., Salesforce, Springboard), Infrastructure, Networking & Cybersecurity, Information Technology Operations. The Vice President will build and empower a high-performing, mission-driven technology team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. By aligning technology capabilities with organizational goals, the Vice President will enable the delivery of impactful public media and drive APMG's long-term strategic vision. This leader will communicate and present frequently to staff, executive leadership and the board of trustees, as requested. This is a highly visible role in the organization and requires relationship management across all functions of the organization.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive enterprise technology strategy aligned with APMG's mission and long-term objectives.
  • Lead the creation of scalable, future-focused roadmaps for applications, data, infrastructure, and AI capabilities.
  • Champion innovation and emerging technologies to enhance operational efficiency, audience engagement, and revenue growth.
  • Recruit, lead, and retain top-tier technical talent across disciplines.
  • Foster a high-performing, inclusive team culture that supports collaboration, ownership, and accountability.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance development to direct reports.
  • Oversee technology operations across digital, multi-channel, and back-office systems, ensuring reliability, security, and scalability.
  • Ensure 100% uptime and operational excellence across broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Establish technical standards, documentation, and repeatable processes for system implementation and maintenance.
  • Negotiate with and manage strategic relationships with technology vendors, partners, and service providers to enhance APMG's capabilities and cost efficiency.
  • Lead the governance of technology adoption, application rationalization, and long-term ecosystem sustainability.
  • Translate organizational needs into technical strategies, balancing internal capabilities with outsourced solutions.
  • Partner with the COO on the organization-wide AI strategy and support adoption to enhance scale, automation, and content innovation.
  • Oversee enterprise data architecture, governance, and analytics platforms to enable informed decision-making and audience impact.
  • Translate technology trends into actionable opportunities for innovation across the organization.
  • Develop and manage technology budgets, capital expenditures, and cost controls, with the goal of aligning the budget with strategic priorities efficiently and effectively.
  • Ensure risk mitigation strategies, including disaster recovery and cybersecurity protocols, are in place and updated regularly.
  • Partner with leaders across fundraising, philanthropic development, underwriting, distribution, and content to support cross-organizational goals.
  • Design and deliver technology services that support both internal operations and external revenue-generating opportunities.
  • Identify and monetize IT and technology service offerings to support APMG's mission and sustainability, including partnering with leadership to develop B2B services for new revenue growth.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Media, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive leadership in IT, digital technology, or media production, including 5+ years at the senior management level.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization.
  • Proven experience in project planning, implementation, and portfolio management.
  • Strong understanding of broadcast, cloud, and digital media technologies.
  • Knowledge of enterprise platforms (e.g., Salesforce), infrastructure architecture, cybersecurity, and AI.
  • Familiarity with contemporary programming languages, data architecture, and system integration.
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience in public media or other mission-driven nonprofit organizations.
  • Experience developing and operationalizing AI strategies.
  • Knowledge of Total Quality Management (TQM), client/server systems, or project management methodologies.
