Our client is one of Central Florida's largest and most established heavy civil contractors — a privately held company that has scaled significantly while maintaining a tight-knit, people-first culture where hard work gets noticed and careers get built from within. They are seeking a Vice President of Operations to step into an ownership-level leadership role and help drive the next chapter of their growth. This isn't a corporate seat — it's a hands-on, field-rooted position for someone who came up through the trenches and knows how to translate field instincts into operational excellence at scale. If you've led complex heavy civil portfolios, owned P&L accountability, and built the kind of teams that outperform, this is where you belong.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of progressive heavy civil construction experience, with deep roots in underground utilities, site development, or municipal infrastructure
  • A career track that moved from Project Manager into senior operations leadership — you understand both sides of the desk
  • Proven P&L ownership across a substantial portfolio of self-perform construction work
  • Experience leading teams of 5–15+ project managers and overseeing 10–30+ field crews
  • Strong command of job costing, WIP reporting, and margin management
  • Familiarity with construction management platforms such as Procore, HCSS, Viewpoint, or comparable systems
  • Leadership presence that earns respect in a trailer and a boardroom — you execute and bring people with you

Responsibilities

  • Full operational leadership across multiple concurrent heavy civil projects including underground utilities, site development, and public infrastructure work
  • Day-to-day oversight of project managers, superintendents, and field crews — aligning production, schedules, and budgets across the entire portfolio
  • P&L responsibility across $20M–$150M+ in annual project volume, with direct accountability for margin performance and cost control
  • Job cost reporting, WIP tracking, forecasting, and cost-to-complete analysis to maintain financial discipline at every level
  • Field productivity improvement through crew performance evaluation, production rate analysis, and smarter project sequencing
  • Cross-project scheduling and resource allocation to maximize crew and equipment utilization
  • Fleet and equipment oversight to reduce downtime and keep operations moving
  • Change order strategy, cost recovery, and margin protection across all active work
  • Development and continuous improvement of operational systems, SOPs, and processes that can scale with the business
  • Strategic collaboration with executive leadership on staffing, growth planning, and long-term operational direction
