About The Position

We are looking for a Vice President of Operations to lead and scale field operations across a growing heavy civil construction organization. This role is responsible for driving execution, profitability, and operational consistency across multiple concurrent projects. The position oversees project managers, superintendents, and field teams while maintaining direct accountability for performance, production, and margins. This is a hands-on leadership role suited for someone who understands field operations deeply and can align teams, systems, and financial outcomes.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in heavy civil construction operations with a focus on underground utilities, site development, or public infrastructure
  • Proven experience managing P&L responsibility across $20M–$150M+ in annual project volume
  • Background progressing from Project Manager into senior operations leadership roles
  • Strong experience in self-perform construction environments with direct exposure to field execution
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams of 5–15+ project managers and oversee 10–30+ field crews
  • Deep understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, forecasting, and margin control
  • Experience with construction management systems such as Procore, HCSS, Viewpoint, or similar platforms
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence both field and office teams in a results-driven environment

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day operations across multiple heavy civil construction projects including underground utilities, site development, and municipal work
  • Oversee project managers, superintendents, and field teams to ensure alignment with production goals, schedules, and budgets
  • Maintain full P&L responsibility across a portfolio of projects, driving profitability and margin performance
  • Monitor job cost reporting, WIP, forecasting, and cost-to-complete to ensure financial accuracy and control
  • Improve field productivity by evaluating crew performance, production rates, and project sequencing
  • Coordinate scheduling and resource allocation across multiple active projects to optimize efficiency and throughput
  • Oversee equipment utilization and fleet management to reduce downtime and improve operational efficiency
  • Drive change order strategy, cost recovery, and margin protection across all projects
  • Implement and improve operational systems, processes, and SOPs to support scalable growth
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning, staffing, and long-term operational improvements
