About The Position

HCA Healthcare is seeking a dynamic Vice President of Design to lead the strategic and operational aspects of design and process engineering within the Digital Transformation & Innovation (DT&I) team. This individual will play a critical leadership role in shaping the user experience and ensuring that design solutions align with the overall digital product strategy. The VP of Design will lead a talented team of designers, UI/UX researchers, and process engineers, driving innovative design methodologies to improve user experience across clinical and non-clinical touchpoints. As part of the DT&I leadership team, the VP of Design will work closely with the Chief Analytic Officer, Chief Data Officer, VP of Operations, and VP of Product to ensure seamless collaboration between departments. The ideal candidate will champion user-centered design principles, drive consistency in end use experience, and use design thinking to solve complex problems in healthcare.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in design leadership, UX/UI design, and process engineering, preferably within a digital product, healthcare, or AI-driven environment.
  • Strong background in user-centered design methodologies.
  • Proven experience in leading cross-functional teams and collaborating with product, engineering, and executive leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and grow diverse teams of designers, researchers, and engineers.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of implementing strategic design initiatives.
  • Experience managing design teams working on digital transformation initiatives or complex enterprise products.
  • Experience working in a matrixed environment and leading through influence.
  • Expertise in UX/UI design, user research, A/B testing, and prototyping.
  • Expertise with Agile development and iterative product design methodologies.
  • Strong proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and enforce visual identity, design guidelines, and user experience standards in line with the HCA Healthcare brand.
  • Lead the design and execution of process engineering methodologies to identify inefficiencies and pain points across the organization.
  • Collaborate with other DT&I leadership on the overall product strategy and ensure cohesive cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Create and implement consistent frameworks for user research, including standardized user journeys, desirability testing, and persona development.
  • Establish processes to determine when to use surveys versus focus groups and create a tool/method for mapping standard processes and user flows.
  • Partner with VP of Operations on leveraging innovation hubs and partners to bring the voice of the care teams and other leaders into the product lifecycle.
  • Incorporate clinical and non-clinical expertise into product design.
  • Improve the organization's ability to create rapid low-code/no-code prototypes.
  • Champion a culture of continual A/B testing and iterative development.
  • Evangelize user-centric thinking within the digital organization.
  • Stay at the forefront of design innovations and implement the latest in design thinking methodologies.
  • Establish HCA Healthcare as a thought leader in digital healthcare product design.
  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of process engineers, UI/UX researchers, and designers.
  • Own the recruitment, development, and retention of top design talent.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Data, and Operations teams to ensure design initiatives are aligned with broader business and technical strategies.
  • Work hand-in-hand with engineering teams to integrate design seamlessly into the product development lifecycle.
