Ameresco is seeking an accomplished construction executive to lead our design-build and ESCO delivery organization across our Central and West U.S. Region—of multimillion-dollar energy efficiency and infrastructure projects. The Vice President will drive strategy, execution excellence, profitability, and risk management for complex programs, including Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPC), Utility Energy Service Contracts (UESC), and integrated energy projects featuring mechanical/electrical upgrades, HVAC modernization, advanced controls, distributed energy resources (solar PV/BESS), microgrids, and resiliency solutions. This role provides executive oversight of regional directors, senior project managers, superintendents, and a matrixed team of engineering, safety, procurement, and finance professionals to ensure on-time, on-budget, and high-quality outcomes that exceed client expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or related discipline (Master’s preferred).
  • 15+ years of progressive construction and ESCO delivery experience, including 10+ years leading multi-site design-build/ESPC portfolios.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to travel (approx. 30–50%).
  • Proven P&L ownership for portfolios exceeding $100M annually with a track record of on-time, on-budget delivery.
  • Deep knowledge of design-build and ESCO best practices, QA/QC, commissioning, and change/claims management.
  • Advanced proficiency with Primavera P6; fluency with RMS/Procore, cost control, and job cost accounting.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and executive stakeholder management skills.

  • Advanced degree (MS, MBA) in a relevant field (preferred).
  • Professional certifications: PMP, CCM, PE, DBIA (preferred).
  • Experience delivering distributed energy, microgrids, or mission-critical resiliency assets (preferred).
  • Expertise in EVMS, commissioning standards, and complex startup/turnover requirements(preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Leadership & Strategy Define delivery strategy and annual operating plan for construction and ESCO projects; manage portfolio P&L, margin, cash flow, and capital planning across multi-site programs. Establish and monitor performance targets (schedule, cost, quality, safety, client satisfaction); drive continuous improvement using leading indicators and root cause analysis. Collaborate with Business Development and Engineering on pursuit strategy, constructability, delivery models (DB/EPC/ESCO), and competitive pricing.
  • Program Delivery & Governance Provide executive oversight from final design through commissioning and closeout; proactively manage risk, claims, and change control. Chair monthly portfolio reviews; maintain risk registers, mitigation plans, and escalation protocols. Ensure rigorous planning and scheduling (Primavera P6) and earned value reporting for schedule certainty and transparent stakeholder communication.
  • People & Organizational Development Build and mentor a high-performing delivery organization; recruit, develop, and succession plan for Directors, Sr. PMs, and site leaders. Foster an inclusive, accountable culture aligned with Ameresco’s values; establish capability standards and communities of practice for repeatable excellence.
  • Commercial Management & Subcontractor Ecosystem Own subcontractor strategy: qualification, selection, negotiation, and performance management for cost, schedule, and quality. Approve major change orders, claims strategies, and dispute resolutions in collaboration with Legal and Project Controls.
  • Safety, Quality, and Compliance Champion a zero-harm safety culture; ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and site-specific ES&H programs. Maintain adherence to codes, standards, and Ameresco policies for ethics, data security, and records management.
  • Stakeholder Engagement Serve as executive point of contact for customers and partners; lead high-stakes project reviews and executive briefings. Deliver clear, proactive communications: weekly status updates, monthly dashboards, and executive summaries.
