About The Position

The Vice President, Clinical Laboratory Services is a strategic, system-level leader responsible for the vision, operational excellence, financial performance, and clinical quality of all laboratory services across Hartford HealthCare. The Vice President oversees an integrated network of hospital-based, ambulatory, outreach and reference laboratories, ensuring service line alignment, regulatory compliance, and the delivery of high reliability, patient centered care. The Vice President will drive innovation, standardization, and growth, positioning Hartford HealthCare’s clinical labs as a regional leader in advanced diagnostics, automation, and value-based care.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or related area
  • Ten plus years of progressive leadership experience in clinical laboratory operations within a complex health system
  • Proven experience managing multi-site laboratories, large teams, and high-volume operations
  • Demonstrated success with regulatory survey readiness, quality improvement, and financial performance
  • Experience in leading automation, standardization, or major transformation initiatives
  • Strategic thinking with ability to balance clinical quality and business performance
  • Executive presence and strong communication skills
  • Collaborative leadership style with ability to influence across a matrixed health system
  • Commitment to high-reliability principles and patient centric service
  • Innovation mindset with ability to lead change at scale
  • If applicable, eligible for licensure in Connecticut (PhD/MD)

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive oversight of systemwide laboratory operations while standardizing workflows, optimizing LIS, ensuring reliability, and driving major improvement initiatives
  • Develop and execute a system wide laboratory strategy aligned with Hartford HealthCare’s mission, quality goals, and growth priorities by advancing diagnostic capabilities in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology including molecular, genomic, and digital pathology and partnering with executive leadership, physicians, and clinical service lines to support enterprise-wide clinical initiatives
  • Ensure full regulatory compliance while fostering a culture of safety, monitoring key quality metrics, and driving continuous improvement
  • Lead budgeting, cost management, revenue optimization, and strategic growth initiatives, including capital planning and new service development
  • Advance diagnostic innovation through AI, automation, digital pathology, and data integration while leading LIS/EHR optimization and digital transformation
  • Guide a diverse laboratory workforce, advancing recruitment, retention, development, workforce pipeline and engagement strategies
  • Participate in training of Pathology residents and fellows, post-doctoral fellows and medical students
  • Provide lectures and develop independent research activities and publication thereof in scientifically qualified peer-reviewed journals
