Working in close partnership with the Boston Medical Center Health System Chief Operating Officer (COO) and the Chair of Medicine, the Vice President (VP) of the Department of Medicine (DOM) holds a pivotal leadership role. The VP is accountable for guiding a broad portfolio of functions, including administrative operations, fiscal planning and oversight, clinical operations and strategy, research systems, leadership development, regulatory compliance, and administrative infrastructure. In close collaboration with DOM, BMCHS leadership, and the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine (CAMed), the VP evaluates, designs, implements, and monitors process improvements that advance clinical, research, and educational excellence. A central priority of this role is fostering a culture of timely, responsive, accurate, and high-quality administrative support for all missions of the DOM. The VP works in partnership with BMCHS leadership, DOM Section Chiefs and Vice Chairs, and CAMed Center Directors and leadership. Together with the Chair and COO, the VP develops and executes a multi-year plan to integrate activities and administrative structures in the DOM across BMCHS. This effort requires strategic insight, organizational acumen, and interpersonal sensitivity during a period of significant change. At the same time, the VP must build a cohesive administrative leadership team capable of driving integration while ensuring the smooth functioning of day-to-day operations across clinical care, research, and education. As the largest clinical department within BMCHS, the DOM comprises more than 500 faculty, 1,500 staff, and an annual budget of an approximately $200 million.
