About The Position

The Vice President of Human Resources & Labor Relations is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of the HR function within the Credit Union. This role contributes to achieving MCU’s overall mission and goals by driving strategic human capital programs that serve to attract and retain talent, support inclusion and diversity, drive a best-in-class culture, ensure the efficient operations of the HR Team, and achieve competitive performance in the market.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent; or eight to 10 years of related work experience.
  • Proven experience as a senior leader in HR with a minimum of five years in a managerial capacity.
  • SHRM-CP preferred.
  • Extensive employment relations/law knowledge, prior CBA/union experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of HRIS/Applicant Tracking Systems, position management, and best practice recruiting process workflows.
  • Thorough knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state employment laws.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Talent Acquisition, Employee and Labor Relations, as well as the outsourced HR Operations function.
  • Recommend and align with executive leadership on long-term goals; identify strategies to support business goals through human resources and culture.
  • Manage the entire employee life cycle: recruiting, onboarding, employee engagement, employee relations, performance management, compensation, and off-boarding.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure organization HR policies and procedures are updated, communicating and enforcing organization values in compliance with all legal and organizational requirements, standards and procedures.
  • Provide guidance, advice and counseling to HR team and leaders on all HR-related matters.
  • Partner with the business leaders to investigate unfair labor practices, mediate workplace conflicts, and prepare and attend grievances and arbitrations.
  • Develop and sustain a positive working relationship with shop stewards, union officials and union staff and adhere to terms of labor contracts.
  • Lead the Employee Relations function to address employee concerns, conflicts, complaints, and grievances in a timely manner to resolve issues effectively.
  • Manage and track all employee and labor relations data; conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis as needed.
  • Establish and maintain talent market expertise, including a comprehensive view of credit union institutional employment trends to assist in developing MCU recruiting/forecasting staffing needs.
  • Oversight of workforce management processes/procedures including contractors, temporary staffing and internship programs.
  • Perform job analysis, classification studies, and audits. Collaborate with organizational leadership to drive automation where possible and ensure ongoing process improvement.
  • Oversee all performance evaluations systems and feedback processes, ensuring compliance with policy and procedure.
  • Oversee all compensation and benefits programs including salary structures, bonus plans, health & wellness programs, and employee recognition. Evaluate and adjust these programs as necessary to remain competitive.
  • Develop and maintain processes and procedures for all HR functions.
  • Establish and manage HR metrics and reporting systems to provide insights into the HR function’s effectiveness, enabling data-driven decision making.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives throughout the organization, fostering a culture of respect and belonging. Partner with the DEI Council, as needed, to provide an independent review on programs.
  • Lead, mentor and manage an agile and efficient human resource team.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, multi-state and local laws.
  • Maintain records, reports, and logs in accordance with applicable laws.
  • Demonstrate initiative in determining new or modifying existing HR policies and procedures and effectively communicating them to the executive team and employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
