About The Position

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs, the position involves helping to coordinate and manage governmental affairs issues related to VyStar Credit Union and its subsidiaries. The position will serve as one of VyStar’s registered lobbyists and will include administering and maintaining policies and objectives involving local, state, and federal government affairs, with a particular focus on local and state jurisdictions in the State of Florida.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8+ years of meaningful experience working within the public sector and/or advocating before it, preferably at the local and state government level in Florida.
  • Knowledge and ability to research and advise upon the statutory, regulatory, and governmental requirements applicable to financial institutions and the subsidiaries that comprise the VyStar enterprise.
  • Strong negotiating and advocacy experience.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work successfully with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational, management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable with uncertainty and change management requirements.
  • Flexible approach to new projects, requirements, and workplace demands.
  • Sense of humor.
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers.
  • Must maintain required licenses or certifications.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required

  • Meaningful experience working with industry trade associations and/or elected officials is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting with the local, state, and federal advocacy efforts of the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs, particularly in Florida jurisdictions.
  • Assist the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs with VyStar’s day-to-day interactions and relationships with Florida financial services trade associations and other public sector-facing industry/stakeholder groups, including contract lobbyists retained by VyStar.
  • Develop and maintain VyStar relationships with key Florida public sector decision makers and other influencers at the local, state and federal levels.
  • Work with the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs to build and implement VyStar’s political giving strategy.
  • Provide information, intelligence, and counsel to VyStar’s external facing units based on public sector happenings.
  • Assist the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs with the creation, management, and disbursement of relevant information, messaging, or guidance related to government affairs within the credit union industry.
  • Attend, participate, and lead both scheduled and impromptu meetings with Florida governmental leaders, as well as attendance at local chamber events and state and federal government conferences.
  • Assist relevant VyStar leaders, including senior leadership and retail market leadership, with relevant relationship-development with elected and appointed officials, as needed.
  • Manage VyStar’s enterprise-wide memberships and relationships with chambers of commerce, including providing counsel to employees who serve as VyStar’s primary points of contact with those chambers.
  • Attend local and state legislative committee meetings and hearings in Florida.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
