The Vice President, Global Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability (HSES) is the executive leader responsible for defining and executing S&C Electric Company’s global HSES and sustainability strategy. This role establishes enterprise governance, drives regulatory compliance, mitigates operational and enterprise risk, and embeds a “Safety First” and “Injury-Free Workplace” culture across all manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, and field-service operations worldwide. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the VP leads a global HSES organization, partners closely with senior leaders, and serves as a trusted advisor to the Executive Leadership Team on safety, environmental stewardship, sustainability, ESG priorities, and long-term risk management. The role delivers measurable improvements in safety performance, environmental impact reduction, and sustainability outcomes while ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and stakeholder expectations. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Business, or a related technical field.

Responsibilities

  • Board/Executive Reporting: Regularly brief executive leadership and Board-level stakeholders on HSES risk, performance, and strategic initiatives. Support Executive Leadership Team and Board committees as required on HSES governance, enterprise risk, and sustainability matters.
  • External Representation: Represent S&C with regulators, customers, industry associations, and external stakeholders on HSES and sustainability matters.
  • Advance a best-in-class HSES culture: Establish and sustain an enterprise-wide culture that delivers measurable improvements in health, safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainability performance while balancing operational excellence and fiscal responsibility.
  • Sustainability & ESG Leadership: Lead environmental sustainability and ESG-related initiatives, including emissions reduction, resource efficiency, regulatory disclosures, and alignment with evolving stakeholder, customer, and investor expectations. Partner with executive leadership on sustainability strategy, goals, and transparency.
  • Cross-Functional Safety, Health, Environmental, and Sustainability Leadership: Partner with production and central function teams to embed safety into operational processes, ensuring alignment on safety standards, compliance, and performance goals.
  • Thought Leadership: Provide enterprise-wide thought leadership on HSES best practices, ensuring alignment with operational excellence, quality outcomes, and enterprise risk objectives.
  • Crisis & Enterprise Risk Leadership: Lead enterprise response to critical incidents, crises, and emerging HSES risks.
  • Health, Safety, Environmental, Sustainability Strategy: Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for HSES, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and regulatory requirements including OSHA and EPA standards. Leverage customer feedback to influence company-wide HSES objectives.
  • Strengthen organizational performance: Establish and govern enterprise policies that support HSES and sustainable practices, ensuring consistent global execution and oversight.
  • Drive continuous improvement: Establish global performance metrics, dashboards, and analytics to identify trends, set enterprise targets, and drive sustainable corrective actions. Leverage data-driven insights, industry benchmarks, and emerging technologies to continuously enhance HSES effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Ensure readiness and responsiveness: Oversee occupational health services and ensure effective management of health-related cases with discretion and care. Lead and maintain the Emergency Response Team to ensure preparedness for incidents, rapid response, and recovery across all operational sites.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the company’s senior executive authority on Health, Safety, Environmental & Sustainability, staying abreast of industry best practices, standards, and technological advancements and ensuring the greater Health, Safety, Environmental and Sustainability function is well-versed in the latest methodologies and tools, facilitating a high level of technical proficiency.
  • Customer Escalation and Resolution: Oversee the resolution of critical customer safety, health, environmental and sustainability issues, ensuring timely and effective corrective actions. Lead high-visibility projects to address systemic safety, health, environmental, and/or sustainability challenges and foster trust with key stakeholders.
  • Root-Cause Analysis: Lead an advanced problem-solving process that uses various systematic techniques to identify root causes of safety issues, communicating necessary enhancements to cross-functional teams to implement effective countermeasures.
  • Monitor, prioritize, and coordinate the workflow of direct reports based on strengths in the achievement of organizational goals and objectives
  • Establish, monitor, and hold team members accountable to clear responsibilities and accountabilities, providing ongoing performance feedback, both positive and developmental, and addressing performance gaps in a timely manner
  • Foster a culture that supports the growth and development of team members by using appropriate coaching and mentoring techniques, training, and participation in development opportunities aligned to their role and development plan
  • Build a sense of ownership and shared responsibility within the team, encourage employee feedback and involvement in team decisions and address/mediate conflicts to restore harmony
  • Empower and motivate team members by fostering an inclusive and healthy work environment and positive team morale, recognizing, and rewarding achievements, and celebrating successes
  • Manage administrative processes including but not limited to team/project budgets, recruitment, induction, leave management, performance reviews, performance improvement plans, and succession planning
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable company policies, governance standards, brand guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
