About The Position

The Vice President for Finance, as chief fiscal officer of the University, is responsible for the executive management of the financial support and business-related service units of the University and Foundation. Major functions include, but are not limited to, (1) directing all fiscal matters; (2) establishing policies and procedures; (3) preparing reports, audits and budgets; (4) increasing resources; and (5) providing cost-effective services. The Vice President for Finance reports to the President of the University and is a member of the President's Cabinet. The Vice President for Finance is responsible for all fiscal units within the Division.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree is required in business administration or other appropriate related advanced degree.
  • A minimum of ten years of administrative leadership experience, preferably in higher education, with significant management and supervisory experience.
  • Experience in financial analysis, budget planning and management.
  • A thorough knowledge of business and finance principles and practices applicable to higher education at the local, state, and national levels.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA designation and experience with Banner Software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate all of the financial accounting and finance functions, reporting principles, methods, techniques, and standards as applied within an academic environment for the Finance division.
  • Analyze various business, financial, treasury, and budget matters making recommendations and solutions to the President, the President's Council, and department heads for resolution and future considerations.
  • Provide strategic financial leadership to the institution, contributing to the overall strategy and operational goals of the University from a broad business perspective and with a focus on both influencing change and most effectively deploying the University's financial resources.
  • Develop and present accurate, transparent, and insightful reports, presentations, and communications to engage individuals at all levels of the University to inform financial decision-making.
  • Model, evaluate, and advise on the financial impact and return of proposed decisions, policies, and strategies. Provide recommendations to enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
  • Translate the University's strategic and tactical business plans into financial plans. Develop and continually evaluate the University's short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust, efficient and transparent budgeting and forecasting processes, systems and tools as needed to maintain a balanced budget.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial reporting, analysis and management reports of financial results, trends, and forecasts.
  • Initiate appropriate strategies and actions to enhance the University's investment management decisions and activities.
  • Oversee systems and procedures for proper expenditures and control of the University's budget to ensure the fiscal stability of the institution.
  • Organize, coordinate, and facilitate capital budgeting for construction planning of new facilities and facilities modifications.
  • Oversee the University's Auxiliary units to ensure contractual services are rendered, and to create and implement growth strategies that generate new and enhanced revenue streams.
  • Coordinate efforts and provide leadership on external audits.
  • Lead operational procedures to purchase on behalf of the University in the most economical way.
  • Coordinate the operating procedures to manage and maintain the fixed assets.
  • Lead, supervise, coordinate, and evaluate all Finance direct reports.
  • Develop policies and procedures for the Finance Division.
  • Compose data for internal and external entities.
  • Coordinate all activities as it relates to contract development, monitoring and training for contracts administered by the University.
  • Serve as Grambling University Foundation Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for the overall fiscal management of the Foundation.
  • Develop and sustain productive and collaborative relationships across divisions and with other university constituencies.
