About The Position

The Vice President of Facilities will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all facilities management functions across Experience Senior Living’s portfolio of communities. This executive will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive facilities strategy that ensures exceptional building performance, safety, regulatory compliance, and a best-in-class resident experience. This leader will partner closely with Operations, Development, Asset Management, Health & Wellness, and Finance to ensure communities are maintained to the highest standards while optimizing capital investments and operating expenses. The VP of Facilities will also play a critical role in supporting new community openings, developing preventative maintenance programs, and building scalable systems and vendor partnerships to support ESL’s continued growth. The ideal candidate is a strategic facilities leader who combines strong operational execution with the ability to build programs, processes, and standards that elevate both property performance and resident satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in facilities management, property operations, or engineering leadership.
  • Multi-site portfolio experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems.
  • Demonstrated experience managing capital projects and facilities budgets.
  • Expertise in preventative maintenance programs and operational process improvement.
  • Strong vendor management and contract negotiation skills.
  • Ability to partner cross-functionally with operations, finance, development, and clinical teams.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence across multiple levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Facilities Strategy & Portfolio Leadership Develop and execute a national facilities strategy that supports ESL’s operational excellence and long-term portfolio performance. Establish standards for facilities operations, preventative maintenance programs, and capital planning across all communities. Ensure communities maintain a luxury hospitality-level physical environment aligned with ESL brand standards. Provide strategic leadership and guidance to Executive Directors and community facilities teams.
  • Capital Planning & Asset Preservation Partner with Finance and Asset Management to develop and manage annual capital improvement plans. Prioritize capital investments that protect asset value, improve operational efficiency, and enhance the resident experience. Oversee major capital projects including renovations, equipment replacement, and infrastructure improvements. Evaluate building systems and recommend lifecycle replacement strategies.
  • Operational Excellence Standardize preventative maintenance programs, work order systems, and building inspection protocols across the portfolio. Implement technology and reporting tools to track facilities performance, compliance, and maintenance metrics. Monitor community-level facilities performance and proactively address operational risks. Develop emergency preparedness protocols and ensure business continuity plans are in place.
  • Vendor Strategy & Contract Management Develop national vendor partnerships and negotiate master service agreements for critical services including: HVAC Life safety systems Elevators Landscaping Environmental services Waste management Building systems maintenance Manage vendor performance and ensure service standards are consistently met across communities. Identify opportunities to leverage scale and reduce operating expenses through strategic sourcing.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Safety Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to facilities operations. Oversee life safety systems, building inspections, and regulatory readiness across the portfolio. Partner with Health & Wellness leadership to ensure facilities support clinical and resident care needs. Maintain compliance with OSHA, fire safety, and emergency preparedness requirements.
  • New Development & Community Openings Partner with Development and Construction teams to support new community openings. Provide operational input during the design and construction phases to ensure efficient long-term building operations. Oversee facilities readiness and operational setup for newly opened communities.
  • Team Leadership & Development Lead and develop a high-performing facilities organization across the ESL portfolio. Support Executive Directors and community facilities leaders with training, operational guidance, and leadership development. Establish clear accountability, performance expectations, and professional development opportunities for facilities teams.
