About The Position

The Vice President, Engineering leads the Engineering discipline in Global Operations and is the senior leader accountable for shaping and advancing Marriott International’s global engineering strategy in support of safe, reliable, and efficient hotel operations worldwide. This role sets functional direction, standards, and priorities while guiding large-scale engineering initiatives from concept through execution. The Vice President provides enterprise leadership for core engineering domains including facilities systems, life safety, utilities, water stewardship, and engineering workplace safety. In addition, the Vice President is responsible for identifying, implementing, and scaling innovative technologies and engineering solutions that drive operational excellence across diverse geographies. The role partners closely with Continents and various Headquarters Disciplines to ensure engineering practices support owner value, guest and associate satisfaction, and and regulatory compliance. This position is a critical partner in enabling environmental impact and climate strategy outcomes through influence on energy use, water consumption, carbon reduction, and the built environment. The Vice President collaborates closely with the Climate Action Program team to translate enterprise goals into practical, scalable engineering solutions that properties can successfully enact. This position establishes and monitors engineering performance metrics, drives continuous improvement, and represents the Engineering function with internal and external stakeholders globally. In addition to technical and operational leadership, this role is responsible for shaping the future of the Engineering profession at Marriott. The Vice President defines the capabilities, skills, and development pathways required to build a future-ready engineering workforce, ensuring associates are equipped to operate in increasingly complex, technology-enabled, and sustainability-influenced hotel environments.

Requirements

  • 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Hospitality, Project Management, Sustainability, or related field; or a combination of education and experience where comparable knowledge can be gained.
  • 10+ years of hotel facilities management experience including a minimum of four different properties and at least two different brands; Corporate Headquarters, regional team, and market leadership will be considered as brand experience.
  • Facilities Certification CEOE, IFMA, or FMA

Nice To Haves

  • In-depth knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, and electrical systems, carpentry, paint, and vinyl expertise, and Life Safety Systems.
  • Experience managing and operating a central plant and construction of CEP projects.
  • Knowledge of ADA, OSHA, EPA and other regulatory requirements and Engineering Brand Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Set Global Engineering Direction: Define and implement the global engineering strategy aligned with Global Operations priorities, ensuring consistent standards, practices, and governance across regions and brands.
  • Deliver Complex Engineering Initiatives: Oversee large-scale engineering projects from conception through completion, ensuring delivery on time, on budget, and in compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Ensure Safety, Reliability, and Compliance: Maintain oversight of engineering workplace safety, life safety systems, utilities, and regulatory compliance across local, state, federal, and international requirements.
  • Enable Sustainability Through Engineering: Partner with Climate Action Program and sustainability teams to support energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, and carbon reduction goals through engineering standards, technologies, and property-level solutions.
  • Provide Technical Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert on utilities, energy structures, and renewable energy approaches across regulated and non-regulated markets.
  • Advance Innovation and Efficiency: Identify and implement new technologies and engineering solutions that improve operational efficiency while protecting guest experience and owner value.
  • Define the Engineer of the Future: Lead the body of work around the future engineering role, identifying the skills, tools, and ways of working required to support digital transformation, advanced building systems, energy transition, and evolving sustainability expectations.
  • Develop Engineering Talent and Capability: Ensure engineering associates are equipped to adopt new technologies (including AI-enabled tools), data-driven approaches, and innovative solutions while maintaining safety, reliability, and operational excellence. Partner with Learning team to shape and prioritize engineering training, certifications, and experiential learning.
  • Monitor Performance and Platforms: Establish and track engineering KPIs, oversee engineering-related dashboards and platforms (e.g., MESH, Transcendent), and recommend enhancements to improve usability and impact on a systemwide basis.
  • Manage Financial Accountability: Develop and manage the Global Operations Engineering budget, ensuring transparency, cost discipline, and alignment with enterprise priorities.
  • Represent the Discipline: Communicate engineering strategies, priorities, and outcomes to internal and external stakeholders; represent the Engineering function in cross-disciplinary and industry forums.
