The VP of Database Products will lead the Engineering, Infrastructure, and Operations of all Database Management Systems for the enterprise. The successful candidate will lead a 200+ people global organization managing a hyper-scale database environment for the enterprise. The organization encompasses multiple directors along with a global team that engineers, designs and supports multiple on-prem and cloud database platforms. Key responsibilities include: Evaluation and selection of DBMS products, engineering and automation leadership, evaluation and selection of infrastructure, leadership of design and testing, and 24x7 operational support of the environment. Possess a good understanding of public and private cloud capabilities. Maintain close partnership with Architecture, Security, Data, Application Engineering, and Executive Leadership to deliver best-in-class database products aligned with long-term business strategy. Given the scale of the setup, the leader should have experience: leading a large global team, managing large commercial contracts, vendor engagement, and effectively managing risk while solving for business requirements.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in database engineering, infrastructure, or data platforms.
  • Demonstrated success leading cloud migrations and modernization initiatives.
  • Experience patching, monitoring, and supporting critical systems at scale.
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to balance refresh, staffing, support, software, and budget priorities.
  • Ability to make decisions and take action while under pressure.
  • Troubleshooting expertise and knowledge of the AMEX infrastructure eco-system.
  • Demonstrated ability to evolve skills and drive success in multiple technical domains.
  • Strong people leader that is able to bring teams together to deliver complex solutions.
  • Creative thinker having the passion to identify opportunities, develop solutions, while having the courage and drive to act.
  • Strong partnership skills as this role will be highly dependent on Storage, Compute, Cloud, NGDM, and Security team for success.
  • Global people leadership experience of large teams.
  • Able to lead peers and teams through change.
