About The Position

Oversee the accounting and financial reporting functions of Thomas Jefferson University Health System, ensuring appropriate accounting practices, strong internal controls, accurate revenue recognition, required financial filings, and well‑governed financial policies. Safeguard the organization's financial assets and ensure that financial activities are accurately reflected in accordance with applicable standards and regulations. Deliver timely, accurate, and decision‑useful financial information to support operational leadership in making informed, data‑driven decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 10 years of Public Accounting and/or healthcare finance experience required
  • Minimum of ten years of progressive experience in financial analysis, budgeting, accounting, taxation, and financial statement preparation, preferably in a university or healthcare setting; direct experience with general ledger systems and interaction with external auditors.
  • Minimum of 7 years of staff supervision required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point.
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
  • CPA - Certified Public Accountant - State of Pennsylvania within 2 Years

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Business preferred
  • 7 years of Healthcare finance experience preferred
  • Familiar with artificial intelligence preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises/prepares the monthly consolidated financial reporting including financial statements, variance analysis, statistical and financial ratio reporting.
  • Coordinates and oversees the associated quality review process and ensures timely and accurate completion in accordance with monthly close.
  • Management of the campus financial reporting and general accounting functions, including presentation of financial statements, trends and other relevant information to senior management and the Trustees.
  • Coordinate and\or assists in the annual external audit including planning; preparation of work papers; and supporting audit schedules, preparation/review of Quarterly Footnote Reports and Annual Audit report, and direct interfacing with auditors to answer questions; clarifies issues in accordance with GAAP and the Healthcare Audit Guide.
  • Reviews of new accounting standards and accounting standards updates.
  • Oversees timely balance sheet reconciliation for accuracy and adherence to accounting guidance.
  • Management of the Sponsored Program Accounting Office.
  • Responsible for managing the external reporting requirements, grant compliance, billing and cash collection for all research sponsors; preparation and negotiation of the federal indirect cost reimbursement rate and employee benefit rate.
  • Management of the Office of Student Accounts encompassing the billing and collection of all tuition and fees; and the recording the disbursement and collection of all student loan funds.
  • Manage the maintenance, operation and implementation of financial systems necessary to conduct University business and recording of transactions
