About The Position

The new Center for Translational Genomics and Proteomics will integrate cutting-edge efforts in cell and tissue genomic technology, proteomics and genomics technologies, human genetics and functional genomics under one organization to advance our Mission to discover and develop transformative therapies. The Center will investigate key biological questions at an unprecedented scale enabled by unparalleled lab and AI capabilities in gRED to enable the training of foundation models for target and drug discovery and to help discover novel targets and develop clinical candidates in collaboration with all of our therapeutic areas. The leader will craft and implement a strategic vision for the Center. They will also foster an innovative and collaborative environment of technical and biological excellence and creativity in the Center and across gRED to shape and complement existing target discovery efforts.

Requirements

  • PhD, MD, MD / PhD or equivalent advanced degree.
  • Proven leader with ideally 10+ years of experience, including at least 5 years as a laboratory or institute head, Director level or above.
  • Outstanding track record of scientific accomplishments spanning the field as demonstrated through scientific publications, presentations and/or patents.
  • Specific demonstrated ability to bridge large scale experimental technologies with computational approaches to drive biological insights.
  • Critical thinker with ability to analyze possibilities, solutions, and development of pragmatic solutions.
  • Strong, lucid and influential communicator with exceptional influencing skills.
  • Excellent collaboration skills and ability to build and connect strong teams and communities.
  • Record of developing and mentoring excellent scientific leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Creating and implementing a strategy for translational genomics for the broad therapeutic needs of the organization.
  • Build, develop and lead an umbrella organization to foster a community for novel target discovery.
  • Lead and develop cutting edge core technologies in genomics and proteomics to advance and support the Research and Development portfolio.
  • Collaborate with functions across gRED, Genentech and Roche to ensure a seamless target discovery and drug development pipeline.
  • Collaborate closely with Drug Discovery to deploy its capabilities in phenotypic screens for hit generation and assessment of mechanisms of action throughout the drug discovery and development phases.
  • Collaborate closely with gCS on the development of lab-in-the-loop experiments and collection of datasets for training foundation models that drive target and drug discovery.
  • Work in close collaboration with the VP of Translational Medicine and the TM Leadership Team on biomarker and translational research projects.
  • Be a thought leader in large-scale research of disease biology, target discovery and drug discovery.
  • Seek, foster and maintain external partnerships that add value, create flexibility, access expertise and drive return for gRED.
  • Accountable for contributing to target identification, and ultimately, enhanced portfolio productivity.
  • Partner across Genentech and Roche to collaborate on high priority shared goals.
  • Seamless coordination with VPs of each therapeutic research area and other senior leaders.
  • Contribute to appropriate governance bodies to establish strategic directions and deliver critical objectives across the entire organization.
