About The Position

The Columbus Center for Wildlife Conservation (CCWC) is seeking a Vice President and Director to lead its mission of empowering people and saving wildlife. This pivotal leadership role is essential for steering conservation efforts both locally and globally, as well as spearheading fundraising initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to secure financial support, driving the mission forward, and fostering a culture of sustainability within and beyond the organization. The CCWC is committed to animal conservation, biodiversity, and sustainability, and aims to provide an inclusive experience for all who engage with its programs. In this role, the Vice President and Director will develop and implement the strategic vision and operational framework for the CCWC, overseeing key programs such as Partners in Conservation (PIC), the Ohio Center for Wildlife Conservation, Mission Conservation, and the Commitment to Conservation Award. Collaboration with senior leadership, Board members, staff, and stakeholders will be crucial in setting strategic goals, creating implementation plans, and measuring success. The Director will also represent the organization at national and international meetings, conferences, and seminars to build support for conservation initiatives. The position requires fostering a culture of conservation across the CCWC and the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium (CFZP), including the Zoo, Wilds, Zoombezi Bay, and Safari Golf. The Director will cultivate a collaborative environment by nurturing existing partnerships and establishing new ones to enhance conservation impact. Additionally, the role involves overseeing conservation projects and staff involvement supported by the CCWC. People management is a key aspect of this position, as the Director will provide mentorship and delegate responsibilities to key positions, including the PIC Manager, Conservation Biologists, and Director of Sustainability. The Director will also manage staff performance, conduct reviews, address performance challenges, celebrate successes, and prepare long-term departmental plans. Philanthropy is another critical responsibility, as the Director will partner with the Philanthropy Department and Board Conservation Committee to expand funding and build relationships with new donors. Identifying and pursuing funding opportunities for conservation programs will be essential for the success of the CCWC. Financial oversight is also a significant part of the role, with the Director overseeing the CCWC budget and ensuring proper financial controls in collaboration with the Finance Department. Communication and outreach efforts will include writing articles, presenting at conferences, and collaborating with the Zoo's Communications department to promote sustainability efforts and conservation projects. The Director will develop metrics to assess conservation impact and organize related seminars, lectures, and educational materials.
