About The Position

The Vice Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education serves as the Chief Clinical and Educational Operating Officer of the Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine. This executive leadership role is pivotal in shaping and executing the strategic and operational direction of the school’s clinical, academic, and educational enterprises. The Vice Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education will collaborate closely with senior leadership, department chairs, clinical affiliates, and university partners to ensure the school delivers high-quality medical education, advances healthcare innovation, and meets accreditation standards.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board Certification in a recognized medical specialty.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in North Carolina.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive academic medical leadership experience, including roles such as Associate Dean, Department Chair, or similar.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing LCME-accredited programs and overseeing academic operations within a medical school.
  • Proven success in building academic-clinical partnerships.
  • Strong track record of faculty development, curriculum oversight, and healthcare delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the integration of clinical operations with the educational mission.
  • Coordinate with Cape Fear Valley Health leadership to align clinical faculty, sites, and resources with academic objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical standards, credentialing, and performance evaluations.
  • Lead initiatives that improve clinical learning environments and patient care quality.
  • Direct the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of the undergraduate medical education (UME) curriculum.
  • Oversee academic departments and ensure faculty effectiveness in teaching and scholarly activity.
  • Guide program development in graduate medical education (GME), interprofessional education, and faculty development.
  • Serve as a senior liaison with accreditation bodies (LCME, ACGME) and ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership across academic and clinical program areas, representing the Dean in all internal and external matters when appropriate.
  • Collaborate on budget development, resource allocation, and operational management of the School of Medicine.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and equity.
  • Support recruitment, mentoring, and retention of high-performing faculty and staff.
