About The Position

The Vice Chair of Education for Hematology Oncology in MGBCI is a key member of the leadership team and reports directly to the Physician-in-Chief and Scientific Director. They will be responsible for leading the educational and training programs in hematology-oncology and neuro-oncology. They will collaborate with division and program leaders to develop premier educational and training offerings for trainees at all levels.

Requirements

  • MD; board certification in hematology, medical oncology, or neuro-oncology
  • Demonstrated clinical and educational leadership accomplishments and a strong reputation in the field of education
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work in a matrixed environment
  • Exceptional communication skills and engagement with medical students, residents, and fellows

Responsibilities

  • Develop a forward-looking vision for trainee education, aligning educational initiatives with the strategic goals of the MGBCI.
  • Work with MGBCI leaders to develop and execute the annual strategic plan for medical education, and monitor progress to ensure the goals and objectives are achieved
  • Lead the development and implementation of innovative educational programs and curricula that meet the needs of learners at all levels, including medical students, residents, and fellows
  • Provide oversight for student clerkships, residency rotations, and fellowship programs
  • Oversee medical school clerkships ensuring active engagement of faculty with medical students
  • Engage with the residency programs at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital to ensure high quality educational interactions
  • Develop exceptional fellowship training that meets the educational, training, and career development needs of clinical and research fellows
  • Partner with the Physician in Chief and Scientific Director to develop a physician investigator development program spanning preclinical medical students through fellows, inclusive of clinical, health services and outcomes, translational, and fundamental research
  • Coordinate and assist with training grant submission and renewals (T32, K12)
  • Engage with Harvard Cancer Consortium training and education programs
  • Establish robust evaluation mechanisms to assess program effectiveness, learner performance and satisfaction, using data to inform ongoing curriculum enhancements.
  • In collaboration with the Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs, promote faculty development initiatives to enhance teaching skills, curriculum development capabilities, and research mentorship among clinician educators.
  • Ensure compliance with ACGME and MGB GME requirements including completion and evaluation of required surveys.
  • Participate on committees and/or attend meetings of BWH/MGH, BWPO/MGPO, HMS, and others that involve the strategic planning of educational activities of the department
