About The Position

The Department for Blind/Vision Impaired (DBVI) is seeking a VIB Store Associate for its Oceana location. This role is designed to employ and support Virginians who are blind, visually impaired, or deafblind in achieving their desired level of employment. The VIB Store Associate will provide stock, cashier, and customer service support using an automated point-of-sale system in stores located within federal or military environments. These stores sell office supplies, janitorial and cleaning supplies, and other commercial items to a controlled customer base. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with no nights, no weekends, and no federal holidays. The position does not involve handling cash. This is a wage (part-time) position, working 32-40 hours per week with an average of 35 hours, and cannot exceed 1500 hours during the employment year. It does not include health insurance, retirement, or leave benefits.

Requirements

  • Good computer skills including Windows applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service through establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, customers, vendors and agency personnel
  • Ability to perform duties independently without direct supervision
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand up to 8 hours

Responsibilities

  • Operating the cash register

  • Performing additional duties to support Base Supply Store operations
  • Provide accurate information and respond to customer inquiries in a helpful and professional manner
  • Operate the computerized POS system, scanning merchandise and entering required transaction data to accurately record sales
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked store in accordance with established retail standards
  • Complete additional duties and special projects as assigned by the supervisor
