We’re hiring a hands-on Veterinary Technician to be a core part of our clinic and shelter team at the Humane Society of Forsyth County. You’ll handle wellness exams, vaccines, medications, microchips, and accurate records in PetPoint and Avimark. You’ll support public and foster appointments, work alongside our veterinarian, and jump in wherever the animals or team need you. Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of experience in a veterinary clinic/hospital, animal shelter, or animal control environment.
  • Working knowledge of animal breeds, diseases, medical conditions, handling, and behavior.
  • Highly motivated and professional, with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to collaborate constructively within a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience interacting with the public tactfully and empathetically.
  • Proficiency in adapting to various software platforms, including Microsoft Office, PetPoint, and Avimark.
  • Proven ability to think critically and apply sound judgment while adhering to Humane Society of Forsyth County policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable standing for 8 hours or more and maneuvering in tight spaces.
  • Tolerant of loud environments, strong odors, and exposure to cleaning chemicals.
  • Able to handle exposure to zoonotic diseases, allergens, and animals with behavioral or medical challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Perform animal intakes including wellness exams, vaccine administration, and screening tests.
  • Enter medical records into PetPoint and Avimark, ensuring accuracy and timeliness across platforms.
  • Support public and foster appointments by providing clear instructions and excellent service.
  • Administer vaccines, medications, flea/tick preventatives, and microchips both in clinic and during intake.
  • Assist with technician appointments, including Thursday–Saturday in-clinic support and wellness services with the veterinarian.
  • Promote puppy/kitten packs and other preventive care bundles to increase client retention and improve long-term pet health outcomes.
  • Serve as a backup handler for surgery days or clinic support as needed based on staffing.
  • Provide daily care for animals, including kennel cleaning, laundry, and maintenance of free-roaming cat rooms.
  • Work closely with team leads to support shorter shelter stays through efficient intake and medical readiness.
  • Collaborate with shelter staff and volunteers to support animal enrichment, behavioral plans, and adoption follow-ups.
  • Occasionally assist with animal transports and off-site appointments.
  • Pitch in wherever needed whether that’s helping with adoptions, cleaning protocols, or cross-department collaboration.
