The Balazs laboratory (https://balazslab.partners.org/) is looking for a veterinary technician to join our team of diverse investigators to develop a research program that will create new humanized mouse models for immunology and infectious disease work. The person in this role will also be tasked with developing and implementing advanced humanized mouse models involving survival surgery and other complex procedures to enable broad immunology and microbiology research. The role includes responsibility for ordering animals, animal husbandry and mating, sample collection for genotyping and both managing and executing experimental studies in the laboratory by interfacing with all lab members. Provide animal care and medical assistance for laboratory animals. Perform rounds, triage, treat, and monitor basic clinical cases. Assist with collecting experimental, diagnostic and health surveillance samples. Assist the facility veterinary team and other hospital staff by caring for and cleaning patients and facilities, including completing patient treatments. Provides research support by communicating with the research regarding clinical cases and documentation. In addition to other tasks involved in the operation of the animal research program. After hours, rotating weekend and holiday work may be required. Job Summary Provide animal care and medical assistance for laboratory animals.
