About The Position

This position will work closely with and report directly to the Staff Veterinarian for the purpose of providing veterinary care to all animals at the Everett Farm facility and leadership in the areas of veterinary care and animal husbandry. Essential functions include thorough and accurate physical exams on various species of livestock, drawing blood samples, administering treatments, fluid therapy, wound management, field necropsy and tissue collection, disease monitoring, diagnostic testing, parasite surveillance, case tracking, reading bloodwork, surgical procedures and best biosecurity practices. Animal husbandry tasks include vaccinations, hoof trimming, FAMACHA scoring, body condition scoring, locomotion scoring, and fecal exams. The role also requires the ability to restrain large animals by exercising safe handling practices.

Requirements

  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address challenges proactively
  • 3+ years of employment working with large animals
  • Software experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Strong work ethic and history of pursuing excellence
  • Willingness to both learn and teach new medical techniques
  • Experience working in a research or laboratory setting
  • Ability to interpret CBC and Chemistry bloodwork
  • Knowledge of wound management
  • Knowledge of parasite surveillance
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique
  • Knowledge of commonly used veterinary pharmaceuticals and biologics
  • Knowledge of commonly used veterinary diagnostic tests
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in a life science field
  • Valid driver's license
  • Clean driving record for 3 years
  • Ability to travel to other Lampire facilities as needed
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and crouch at various times throughout the day
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at a time
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
